Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. According to the the G.I. Joe dossier file, which of these is Hawk's real name?

Answer: Clayton M. Abernathy

I started reading the comic and collecting the figures from day one. So I always considered Hawk the Leader of G.I. Joe! Then the cartoon comes out and who's in charge? Duke!? I always made Duke second in command.
2. Clutch was the driver of the VAMP, the Joes' jeep. What did the letters of the name VAMP stand for?

Answer: Multi-Purpose Attack Vehicle

It was called the Multi Purpose Attack Vehicle. The words were rearranged to spell the name. It also had a gun turret on the back. A very cool toy!
3. Shana M. O'Hara is the real name of the "G.I. Joe" agent named Scarlett. Where was her birthplace?

Answer: Atlanta, GA

Scarlett was the only female of the original Joes. A martial arts expert and a good friend to everyone's favorite Joe, Snake-Eyes. They had a relationship in the comic but the cartoon paired up Duke with Scarlett. Guess it was easier since Snake-Eyes didn't speak.
4. Breaker has what some may call a bad habit. What is this that he does constantly throughout the comic series?

Answer: chewing bubblegum

Chewing bubblegum is not that bad of a habit. The chewing tobacco and smoking are far worse habits than gum chewing. Some people think it's just rude. I don't mind gum and Breaker's "habit" was an interesting character trait.
5. What was the codename of the seldom used HAL (Heavy Artillery Laser) operator for "G.I. Joe"?

Answer: Grand Slam

He didn't appear in the comic too often. He was an important part of the Joes' assault on Cobra Island in the first issue.
6. What vehicle was Rock 'N Roll using in issue #1 of "G.I. Joe"?

Answer: RAM (Rapid Fire Motorcycle)

Stalker used the Jet Pack in this issue. Steeler drives the MOBAT. The MMS wasn't used in this issue. The RAM motorcycle had a machine gun turret attached to its side. Rock N' Roll was upset that his motorcycle had to be left behind when the Cobra fortress exploded.
7. One of the coolest Joes was Stalker. Do you remember what he wore on his head?

Answer: Beret

Stalker was always one of the team leaders on many missions. When Hawk was assembling the G.I. Joe team, Stalker was the first member he recruited.
8. This soldier goes by the codename Grunt. His codename is also a nickname for what type of soldier?

Answer: Infantry

Grunt was the Joes Infantry Trooper. Just a regular Joe...er, I mean soldier! Just kidding, none of the characters were regular. They were the best of the best!
9. The Laser Rifle Trooper was named Flash. He had nerves of steel and was deadly accurate with the laser, but he brings so much more to the table. In Issue #1, he flew the Cobra helicopter the Joes used to escape the Fortress which was about to detonate.

Answer: False

Zap was the one who piloted the chopper away from the explosion. Flash and Breaker's part of the mission from Issue #1 was to slice into the Cobra radar and keep the "all clear" signal playing back continuously. They did their job flawlessly.
10. What is the codename of the Mortar soldier of the original "G.I. Joe" team?

Answer: Short-Fuze

Zap was the original bazooka soldier. Bazooka was a soldier who made his debut in 1987. Short Round was Indiana Jones sidekick in "Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom". In the comic, Short-Fuze wore glasses. The action figure didn't.
11. How many members of the "G.I. Joe" team were there originally?

Answer: 13

The Joes roster consisted of Hawk, Stalker, Scarlett, Snake-Eyes, Steeler, Rock 'N Roll, Clutch, Breaker, Flash, Grand Slam, Short-Fuze, Zap and Grunt. They were the army's finest!
12. Stalker was a Ranger. Scarlett was Counter Intelligence. Snake-Eyes was a ________?

Answer: Commando

I'll always remember the toy commercial that did the Joes roll call. "Ranger, codename Stalker! Counter Intelligence, codename Scarlett! Commando, codename Snake-Eyes!" That was classic.
13. There was a special bonus story included at the end of Issue #1. It was just a ten page story called "Hot ______".

Answer: Potato

Snake-Eyes, Scarlett and Rock 'N Roll had to deliver a tape of importance to safety. Scarlett stayed behind because she was wounded and ordered Snake-Eyes and Rock N' Roll to continue on with the mission. It was a great short story.
14. Steeler was the operator of the MOBAT, the Joes' tank. Where was his birthplace?

Answer: Pittsburgh, PA

Get it? Pittsburgh Steelers. Pretty cool!
15. In Issue #1, Clutch had orders to deliver Hawk to the Joes' Command Center ASAP! The orders were signed by General Flagg and counter-signed by General Austin. Hawk refers to General Austin as ole "Iron Butt" Austin.

Answer: true

Ole "Iron Butt" Austin's signature on the orders meant this was a very important mission. Hawk told Clutch to drive faster than he already was or they could both face a court martial! Great scripting in this issue.
