Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. To whose album is Byrd listening?

Answer: Billie Holiday

The artist of the album can be clearly seen when Byrd moves the needle off of the record to answer the phone. Billie Holiday died in 1959, six years after the setting of issue number one of "Hawaiian Dick", which debuted in 2002.
2. What is Byrd's first name?

Answer: It's never revealed

Other characters refer to him by his last name, and it's not revealed even in flashbacks. What a mysterious guy! Byrd first appeared in "Hawaiian Dick" #1, which went on sale in 2002.
3. Who are the spirits that Kahami claimed stole a car?

Answer: The Marchers

According to Kahami, the Marchers are ancient Hawaiian spirits whose oncoming march is announced by the beat of drums. In the miniseries, both Grimes and Auntie Chen are menaced by the Marchers. They first appeared in "Hawaiian Dick" #2, which went on sale in 2003.
4. Where was Leila Rose?

Answer: In the trunk of a car

Leila Rose was the girlfriend of crime boss Bishop Masaki. She was kidnapped by a trio of lowlifes looking to make some quick cash, but was shot in the head in a shootout as she was stuffed in the trunk of a car. Leila Rose appeared, albeit dead, in issue #1, which hit stands in 2002.
5. Who became a zombie?

Answer: Leila Rose

As seen in issue #2 and 3, which both went on sale in 2003, Leila Rose became a zombie, searching for the one thing she wanted most: Bishop Masaki. Although she was vibrant and pretty in life, she is somewhat uglier after being dead for a while.
6. Who cast the zombifying spell?

Answer: Auntie Chen

Auntie Chen is Kahami and Leila Rose's aunt who is well-versed in all things supernatural. Reckoning that a dead niece is better than one who associates with crime bosses, she had Leila Rose killed, but then put a zombie spell on her. Auntie Chen met her end in issue #3 of "Hawaiian Dick", which debuted in 2003.
7. Who broke into Byrd's house?

Answer: Bishop Masaki

Bishop Masaki and his men broke into Byrd's house to hire him to find Leila Rose, not knowing that Byrd and Mo Kalami had already found her dead body and were transporting it in their car. Masaki appeared for the first time in the second issue of "Hawaiian Dick", which went on sale in 2003.
8. Leila Rose is romantically interested in Masaki.

Answer: True

She's the only thing he likes more than his drug-peddling business. Masaki was very happy to see her on the docks, but realized too late that she was a zombie. Leila embraced Masaki and plunged them both into the ocean in issue #3 of "Hawaiian Dick" which went on sale in 2003.
9. Whom did Byrd kill before moving to Hawaii?

Answer: His own brother

Byrd still has nightmares about when he shot his younger brother after the latter made some unknown act of transgression. The exact details remain vague, but the younger Byrd was clutching a bloody knife at the time. This nightmare is shown in issue #3, which debuted in 2003.
10. Byrd opens his own detective agency: Kalami Salami Investigations.

Answer: False

Kahami lets Byrd open his very own agency, Byrd Investigations, in what used to be Auntie Chem's apartment. She agrees to be his "girl Friday" if and only if she is instead called an executive assistant. All's well that ends well in "Hawaiian Dick" #3, which hit stands in 2003.
