In a Superboy segment of "Adventure Comics" published in April 1958, written by Otto Binder and drawn by Al Plastino, Superboy is invited to join a super-hero club in the 30th century. That issue of "Adventure Comics" also featured stories on Green Arrow and Aquaman.

Chameleon Boy would not make his first appearance in the Legion till the group's third appearance in "Action Comics" #267.

The three original members of the Legion were flying to Earth on a spacecraft at the same time as millionaire R.J. Brande, when Saturn Girl, who could read minds, detected a plot to kill Brande. The other two stopped the attempt and, in appreciation for what they had done, Brande financed the formation of the Legion.

Tinya Wazzo, a.k.a. Phantom Girl, hailed from the planet Bgztl, which occupies the same space as Earth but exists in a different dimension from Earth. Titan is the home planet of Saturn Girl, Korbal the planet where Lightning Lad and his sister and brother got their powers, and Braal is the home planet of Cosmic Boy.

Triplicate Girl saw one of her three bodies killed in a battle with Computo, a defective computer built by Legion member Brainiac 5.

Lyle Norg was Invisible Kid, who gained his powers of invisibility by drinking a serum. Later, during his service to the Legion, he would be killed by Validus of the Fatal Five. Foccart was the second Invisible Kid, Druiter was Nemesis Kid and Allon was Colossal Boy.

Gim Allon, Colossal Boy, was a resident of Jerusalem. While on a visit to Mars, a meteor crashed near him, giving him the ability to grow to colossal heights.

Salu Dibgy, Shrinking Violet, hails from the planet Imsk and, obviously, had the power to shrink down to just inches in height. Colu was the home planet of Legion member Brainiac 5, Rimbor the home planet of Ultra Boy and Daxam the home planet of Mon-El.

Dr. Zaxton Regulus eventually became a super-villain that would battle the Legion several times in the history of their different books.

Ultra Boy, from the planet Rimbor, gained his power when his spacecraft was eaten by a giant space energy beast. He was rescued by a passing craft but had absorbed enough powers from the beast to give him his special power.

Kim was driven mad by the evil energy of the Miracle Machine. He was eventually cured of the madness and became a politican on his home world of Bismoll. Yes, Bismoll.

Lightning Lad sacrificed himself to save Saturn Girl's life. He was revived on a lightning planet by several members of the Legion in a ceremony where one of them would exchange their life for his. Chameleon Boy's pet Proty took the form of Saturn Girl, took her place in the ceremony and sacrificed himself so Lightning Lad could live.

Jan's home planet of Trom refused to assist a villain named Roxxas. For that reason, Roxxas killed all the residents of the planet except for Jan Arrah, who escaped.

Mysia Nal, the White Witch, was a native of the planet Naltor, like her sister, but did not possess the ability to see the future but instead learned the magical arts on the Sorcerer's homeplanet of Zerox.

Brin Londo was Timber Wolf, who gained the abilities of great strength and heightened senses from a ray developed by his father. Wildfire's real name was Drake Burroughs, Tyroc's was Troy Stewart and Polar Boy's was Brek Bannin.

Nemesis Kid, with the ability to use one's power against them, was a plant by Earth's enemies the Khunds inside the Legion who soon discovered his true motives. Several years later, Nemesis Kid would be responsible for the death of Karate Kid and would soon after be killed himself by Queen Projectra.

The United Planets are the governing organization of which Earth is a member and Metropolis serves as the seat of governemt. Colossal Boy's mother was a President of the United Planets at one time.
