Mpule Kwelagobe, from Botswana, failed to make the semi-finals of Miss World 1997, but grabbed the Miss Universe crown two years later.
6. Who was the last Miss World to receive the Miss World scepter?

Answer: Julia Kourotchkina

Lisa Hanna, Miss World 1993, was the first not to receive the famous scepter anymore, but driving away in her red sports car, it didn't seem she was too unhappy with that.
7. Statement on two Misses South Africa: both Kerishnie Naicker and Sonia Raciti managed to score better in Miss World than in Miss Universe. Which of the following options is correct?

Answer: This statement is absolutely true.

Kerishnie Naicker, of Indian descent, and Sonia Raciti, of Italian descent, were Miss South Africa in 1998 and 1999. Not only the people who have status and stature, who can look beyond the barriers that men have set up for ourselves of nationality, ____. That, for me, makes a true Miss World. A true person, a real person. Thank you."

Answer: colour

This was Aishwarya Rai's answer to the final question, which she received from Katherine Kelly Lang. Aishwarya Rai was Miss World 1994. Her victory in 1994 marked the beginning of a very succesful episode in the pageantry history of India, since after her Diana Hayden, Yukta Mookhey and Priyanka Chopra went on to become the Miss Worlds of 1997, 1999 and 2000.
10. In the 1992-2002 period there was one country that won both the Miss World pageant and the Eurovision Song Contest in the same year. Name that country.

Answer: Israel

Irene Skliva brought the Miss World crown to Greece in 1996. Marianna Efstratiou was less successful in her quest for Eurovision gold. She and her song "Emis Forame To Himona Anixiatika" didn't come any further than a 14th place in the 1996 Eurovision Song Contest.

In 1992, the year Julia Kourotchkina was crowned Miss World, Russia did not compete in the Eurovision Song Contest. They actually never won the Contest, but came close in 2000 when Alsou sang "Solo" to a second position and in 2003 when Tatu finished third, only 3 points behind the winner, with "Ne'ver Ne Bosija."

Even though Azra Akin's Miss World victory in 2002 was only six months before Sertab Erener's victory in the Eurovision Song Contest 2003, the two victories still did not take place in the same year. Meanwhile, Turkey got to host the 2004 Eurovision Song Contest, which used Azra Akin as its official cover girl. Turkey won the Contest with the song "Everyway That I Can."

Israel's Linor Abargil surprised the world when she added more joy to her country's 50th birthday celebrations by landing the crown for Israel. Six months before, Dana International had brought home a victory that was quite as controversial since her victory in the Eurovision Song Contest was rejected by the orthodox population of Israel. Dana International, who won the 1998 Eurovision Song Contest with the song "Diva," was a transsexual and as such she was considered to be unsuited to act as the representative of Israel in such an important international event. Europe's televoters disagreed and "Diva" became a huge hit throughout Europe and Asia.
