The actual historical capitals of Assyria were, from oldest to most recent - Ashur (or Qalat Sherqat), Calah (or Nimrud), the short-lived Dur Sharrukin (or Khorsabad), and Nineveh. The area that Assyria was in is now called Iraq, for those who were wondering where the heck it is. [Thanks to "The Mesopotamian Encyclopedia"]
