quiz
Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. John Cleese was very concerned about his recently purchased parrot. What quote best describes what's actually wrong with the bird?

Answer: 'He's a stiff! Bereft of life, he rests in peace!'

The 'Dead Parrot' sketch featured in episode 8 of the first 'Flying Circus' series and featured Michael Palin and John Cleese. It has been featured in the 'Now For Something Completely Different' movie, 'Live At Drury Lane' and many other feature albums and performances.
2. Which of these isn't true about the lumberjack?

Answer: He goes shopping on Monday

He goes shopping on Wednesday, then has buttered scones for tea! Ah, what a life!
3. Which Python played the Minister of Silly Walks?

Answer: John Cleese

Minister: "Good morning. I'm sorry to have kept you waiting, but I'm afraid my walk has become rather sillier recently, and so it takes me rather longer to get to work."
4. "Our chief weapon is surprise. Surprise and fear. Our two weapons are fear and surprise and ruthless efficiency. Our three weapons are fear, surprise, and ruthless efficiency and an almost fanatical devotion to the Pope....SURPRISE." From which sketch did this quote arise?

Answer: 'Spanish Inquisition' sketch

The 'Spanish Inquisition' sketch starred Michael Palin as Cardinal Ximinez and adaptions of it were featured on 3 albums.
5. In which movie would I find this quote: "By hanging on to outdated imperialist dogma which perpetuates the economic and social differences in our society."?

Answer: The Holy Grail

By the way, his name was Dennis and he was 37, which isn't old at all 'if you ever bothered to ask.'
6. In the 'Fish License' sketch, Mr Praline, aka John Cleese, had quite a few pets. A fruit bat, a cat and a halibut. They were all called what?

Answer: Eric

Definately one of the sillier sketches. Mr Praline goes to the post office to purchase a license for his pet fish. Of course there is no such thing, but try explaining that to Mr Praline!
7. What's the missing word: "Well, there's egg and bacon, egg sausage and bacon, egg and ____, egg bacon and ____, egg bacon sausage and ____, ____ bacon sausage and ____, ____ egg ____ ____ bacon and ____, ____ sausage ____"?

Answer: Spam

This is another extremely silly sketch. A husband and wife enter a diner filled with vikings. If you don't like spam (British spiced ham that tastes pretty darn rotten - my opinion) then you're going to go hungry!
8. In 'The Life Of Brian', which character had a 'very good friend in Wome' and said, "Stwike him Centuwian, vewy woughly"?

Answer: Pilate

Poor old Pilate had a shocking lisp. It was the same guy who had a shocking stutter in 'A Fish Called Wanda' years later, Michael Palin.
9. Why did it take Mrs. Conclusion over four hours to bury her cat?

Answer: It wouldn't keep still

Here's another great quote from this sketch: "Well, it's funny you should ask that, because I've just been reading a great big book about how to put your budgie down, and apparently you can either hit them with the book, or you can shoot them just there, just above the beak."
10. Where would you find this conversation: "An argument is a connected series of statements intended to establish a proposition". "No it isn't." "Yes it is!"?

Answer: 'Argument Clinic' sketch

This is my all time favorite piece of Python. After paying for an intelligent argument, Palin finds himself abused, contradicted, complained at and bashed on the head. "What a silly concept!"
11. Which castle has a lot of virgin women aged between 16 and 19?

Answer: Castle Anthrax

Also from the Movie 'The Holy Grail'.
12. In the 'Cheese Shop' sketch, why wasn't there any Camembert Cheese?

Answer: 'The cat ate it'

Another hilarious sketch with Palin and Cleese. Cleese walks in to the National Cheese Emporium "to negotiate the vending of some cheesy comestibles!" He prattles off a list of 100 different cheeses, all out of stock with a lame excuse. In the end he shoots the shop keeper.
13. What's the Bee's name from this song? "Half a bee, philosophically, must ipso facto, half not be. But half the bee has got to be, vis-a-vis its entity."

Answer: Eric

This silly song goes: "Is this wretched demi-bee, half-asleep upon my knee, some freak from a menagerie? No! It's Eric the half a bee! Fiddle de dum, fiddle de dee, Eric the half a bee. Ho ho ho, tee hee hee, Eric the half a bee."
14. "Cheer up Brian, you know what they say. Some things in life are bad, they can really make you sad. Other things just make you swear and curse." Who's singing?

Answer: Eric Idle

'Bright Side Of Life' is the end scene for 'The Life Of Brian'. The song was written and sung by Eric Idle. The music was arranged by John Altman.
15. Whoops, I meant to finish on the last question! Ok one more. In which song would I find these lyrics? "In war we're tough and able, Quite indefatigable. Between our quests we sequin vests and impersonate Clark Gable."?

Answer: Knights of the Round table

That's it! Hope you enjoyed the memories. I certainly did in writing the quiz.
