Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. The ball and the wheel always spin in the same direction.

Answer: False

The ball and the wheel spin in opposite directions to make the numbers that hit more random. The ball is spun clockwise, and the wheel is spun counter-clockwise.
2. You can continue placing bets until the ball has fallen into a number.

Answer: False

You can only place bets until the dealer calls "no more bets". The dealer will usually sweep their hand above the layout at this time, as well.
3. You have to sit to play roulette.

Answer: False

There are usually six seats at a roulette table, but there can be more than six players. It is easier for most players to reach the numbers if they stand.
4. Roulette chips have no value at the casino cage.

Answer: True

Roulette chips have no value once you leave the roulette table. When you play, you choose what value you want the chips to have, such as $1 each, $2 each, $5 each, etc. You pay for the chips with the value you assigned, and the dealer marks their value on the edge of the roulette wheel. No two players will be assigned the same color chips. You will need to trade in your roulette chips for casino cheques (chips) in order to cash them in.
5. Only one person may play each number.

Answer: False

Everyone at the table can play every number if they so choose. It's fun to see a pile of chips from various players on a winning number!
6. Roulette is sometimes called "The Devil's Game", but do you know why?

Answer: The numbers on the wheel add up to 666.

It's true! The numbers on a roulette wheel go from 1 to 36. Get out a calculator, and do the math. Add up 1 + 2 + 3 + 4, etc, all the way to 36, and the total is 666, the sign of the beast!
7. Which of these is a player NOT allowed to place on a roulette table?

Answer: Purse

Drinks, cigarettes, ashtrays, checks, money, are the only items allowed on a roulette table. Books, magazines, purses, and slot cups are not allowed. Elbows are okay too, but didn't your mother raise you better than to put your elbows on the table? :)
8. What does a straight up (a bet that only covers one number) bet pay?

Answer: 35 to 1

A straight up bet pays 35 to 1, so a $1 bet would net you $35, a $2 bet would net you $70, and so on.
9. A three number bet pays 11 to 1.

Answer: True

The one that covers the 0, 00, and 2 is a called "the basket". The other three number bets are placed on the outside line of the roulette layout, and are called streets. They cover a row of numbers.
10. Which of these is NOT a bet that pays even money?

Answer: 1st 12 numbers (1st section)

The layout is divided into 3 sections for the 12 number section bets. 1 to 12, 13 to 24, and 25 to 36. These all pay 2 to 1, as do the column bets, which also cover 12 numbers.
11. What does a bet on 4 numbers pay?

Answer: 8 to 1

A 4 number bet pays 8 to 1, and is called a corner bet. You place the chip in the center of the disecting lines of the four numbers you wish to bet.
12. What does a two number bet pay?

Answer: 17 to 1

A two number bet is called "a split." This is placed on the dividing line between two numbers which are either beside each other or on top and bottom of each other.
13. There are no bets on the double 0 roulette wheel that covers 5 numbers.

Answer: False

It's true, but there is only 1 such bet. It covers the 0, 00, 1, 2, and 3, and pays 6 to 1.
14. The line that separates the second and third dozen is a legal bet.

Answer: True

Yes, it is a legal bet, but it has nothing to do with the dozens. It is the same as betting a split on the 0 and 00. It is called the "courtesy line" and is there for the players at the bottom of the table who cannot easily reach the top of the layout to bet the 0 and 00.
15. What does a six number bet pay?

Answer: 5 to 1

Six numbers pays 5 to 1. These bets are placed on the outside edge of the layout, right between two rows of numbers. It covers the numbers in both rows. Thanks for playing!
