Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. How many spaces are there on a standard roulette wheel which includes zero and double zero?

Answer: 38

One through thirty-six plus the zeroes. Those little spaces are technically called pockets.
2. In the game of Blackjack, what is the definition of a 'hard hand'?

Answer: Hand with no aces

A 'soft hand', on the other hand (no pun intended) is one which includes an ace that can be valued at eleven.
3. Slot machines that have an increasing 'jackpot' along with fixed payoffs are called what?

Answer: Progressive

The bonus jackpot increases in proportion to the number of coins deposited. Some progressive jackpots are linked to not just one, but a whole bank of machines, with each player adding to the rising total.
4. In the game of Craps, what is the name of the first roll of the dice?

Answer: Come-out roll

If the shooter throws a 4, 5, 6, 8, 9 or 10, this establishes the 'point', or the number he tries to roll again before seven comes up.
5. Again in Craps, what two numbers are called 'natural'?

Answer: 7 and 11

'Craps' on the other hand, are 2, 3 or 12.
6. How many numbers are there on a standard Keno board?

Answer: 80

Keno's one of my favourite games, though it has among the worst odds in the casino. To those who've never played, it's a little like Bingo, except YOU choose the numbers you hope will 'hit'.
7. In the game of Baccarat, neither player nor dealer can draw against hands totalling which two amounts?

Answer: 8 or 9

Unlike Craps, where 7 or 11 are the 'naturals', hands totalling 8 or 9 are called 'natural' in Baccarat--an automatic win.
8. True or False: In roulette, the wheel and ball are always spun in the SAME direction as each other.

Answer: False

The wheel and ball are always spun in OPPOSITE directions of each other, in order to prevent the ball from resting on the rim of the roulette wheel, and the dealer from manipulating the outcome of the spin. Many thanks to player chrismelva for this extra information!
9. In Blackjack, what is the term for betting that you will beat the dealer with just one more card than the two dealt?

Answer: Doubling Down

As the name suggests, you double your bet--and your winnings if you are correct!
10. What is the nickname for the overhead camera that monitors player and dealer behaviour in a casino?

Answer: Eye in the Sky

Next time you're in a casino--look up! They're everywhere, searching for staff and visitors out to make a dishonest buck at the house's expense. Hope you had fun and your gambles paid off!
