Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. The "Rick and Bubba" show is based in which southern city?

Answer: Birmingham, Alabama

The show is broadcast from studios high atop Red Mountain in Birmingham.
2. The "Rick and Bubba" show began broadcasting on which station?

Answer: WQEN - Gadsden

While Rick and/or Bubba worked at each of these stations, WQEN in Gadsden, Alabama was the station where Bubba first began to appear on a hot-mike in the studio with Rick.
3. Bill "Bubba" Bussey convinced Rick to come to work with him with the observation that:

Answer: Rick missed a Championship football game that Bussey was able to attend

Rick's father was the head coach at Jacksonville State University when they won the National Championship for their division. Rick's station made him do a remote somewhere else that day so he missed the game.
4. Bill "Bubba" Bussey first appeared on-mike doing what now-famous radio bit.

Answer: Good Ole Boy Theater

Bill suggested that Shakespeare with a Southern accent would be funny. Rick agreed to do it, then he made Bill read the part when the time came. Rick told Bill he sounded like his Uncle Bubba and the rest is radio history.
5. Which of the following is NOT the nickname of a former "Rick and Bubba" intern?

Answer: Ricky Ricardo

To date, they have never dubbed an intern Ricky Ricardo... but anything's possible.
6. Which of the following is NOT a version of the "Good Ole Boy Theater" contest?

Answer: Good Ole Boy/Donkey Boy Theater

Believe it or not, there used to be a version called "Pants-less Good Ole Boy Theater," where the boys would drop trou in the studio until a caller guessed the Shakesperean work from which Bubba was "quoting."

This version of the game is probably gone for good with the addition of TV coverage, as some of the guys did go Commando occasionally.
7. In the spirit of "anything for the show," Speed Racer has done all of the following stunts but one. Which one has he not tried yet?

Answer: Bungee jumping from a water tower

Speedy DID climb a water tower, but he's never jumped off.
8. Which of the following stunts resulted in Speedy's arrest?

Answer: Driving a van around the track at Talladega Motor Speedway

It's true, Speedy and Don Juan drove the Rick and Bubba Fun Mobile onto the track at Talledega and were promptly arrested on-air.
9. Which of the following never happened to Speedy?

Answer: Speedy kissed a highway patrolman right on the mouth

I think that kissing a guy is a little too close to American League for Speed Racer.
10. Which of the following have "Rick and Bubba" NEVER done?

Answer: Opened a highly successful restaurant

Rick and Bubba did venture into the restaurant business, but it could hardly be considered a success, as evidenced by the January 2003 closing of the only location.
11. Which of the following "Rick and Bubba" regulars was never an intern of the show?

Answer: Speed Racer

Speedy started out as a part-time employee of the radio station where the show was broadcast, became their van driver (until he wrecked it), and moved up through the ranks to producer.
12. The name of the motion picture in which Rick and Bubba appeared with Michael Poppajohn, Zachary Ty Bryan, Shawn Weatherly and Meat Loaf is ___________.

Answer: Rustin

This movie premiered in June 2001, but has yet to be picked up by a major studio.
13. Which city is home of the station that cancelled the "Rick and Bubba" show after a brief run, stating the show was "too rednecky" to succeed in their town.

Answer: Memphis, Tennessee

The show hasn't yet reached the radio waves of the other cities, although you should be able to see it on Turner South there. The highly cultured folks in Memphis apparently weren't ready for anything like the "Rick and Bubba" show.
14. Which of the following is NOT a character performed by Bill "Bubba" Bussey?

Answer: Car Wash Joe

"Car Wash Joe" is Rick's imitation of his boss at the job he had in high school and college.
15. Which of the following phrases is NOT "Rick and Bubba" lingo for a form of "intimate relations between married folks"?

Answer: Fun Zone

While it seems like the perfect analogy, "Fun Zone" actually refers to a time when Rick and Bubba just don't want to be hassled with any really heavy topics or issues. The day before a vacation is usually a Fun Zone day.
