Leno pretended that the microphone was cutting in and out and began talking in garbled voice so that it was unclear what he was saying other than being able to make out the word "Thursday". Stern thought it was ironic how Leno's speech was cutting in and out despite the fact that Garver could be heard clearly. Stern concluded that the shtick Leno was performing made no sense.
