1. What is the real name of the wrestler known as Ricky "The Dragon" Steamboat?

Answer: Richard Blood

The fantastic wrestler known as Ricky "The Dragon" Steamboat was born in 1953 and named Richard Henry Blood. His father was an American man who made a career serving in the military. Shortly after World War II, his father married a Japanese woman and they had three sons. Ricky was the oldest and one of his younger brothers, Victor, also was a wrestler during the 1980s although he was not as well known as "The Dragon".

Answer: Sam Steamboat

"Slamming" Sammy Steamboat was an exciting wrestler of Hawaiian descent who made a name for himself competing in Eddie Graham's Florida territory in the 1960s. After being trained by the legendary Verne Gagne and appearing briefly in the AWA, Ricky was sent to develop further under Eddie Graham in "The Sunshine State". Immediately Graham disliked the surname of Blood and decided young Ricky would take the name Ricky Steamboat and be billed as Sam's "storyline" nephew.

Answer: Five Times

Paired together for the first time in 1979 the combination of Rick Steamboat and Jay Youngblood immediately were a success with the fans. Gifted with both good looks and incredible ability Steamboat and Youngblood were an exciting team to watch. In August 1979 Steamboat and Youngblood defeated Baron Von Raschke and Paul Jones to win their very first NWA Tag Team Titles together.

In November 1983 at the very first "Starrcade" Steamboat and Youngblood defeated Jack and Jerry Brisco to their fifth and final NWA Tag Team Titles as a team. Sadly a reunion was never meant to be as Ricky went to the WWF in January 1985 and Jay died suddenly at age 30 in November of the same year.

Answer: Matt Borne

On March 31, 1985, at the historic first "Wrestlemania" in Madison Square Garden, Ricky Steamboat, not yet known as "The Dragon", defeated the late Matt Borne in one of the opening bouts. In May 1985 Steamboat was given the moniker of "The Dragon" and began to wear a more Japanese style ring attire. Martial arts had always been a big part of his in ring style so the switch was easy.

In late 1992 Matt Borne finally got his claim to fame portraying the evil character Doink The Clown. Borne died in June 2013 at the age of 55, another underrated talent.
5. On November 7, 1985, Ricky Steamboat competed in the WWF's first Pay Per View event called "The Wrestling Classic". The event centered on a 16 man elimination tournament where first round opponents were picked out of a hat. Who was Steamboat's opponent in the first round?

Answer: Davey Boy Smith

In a very interesting match a young but powerful Davey Boy Smith faced Ricky Steamboat in one of the tournaments first round matches. Being that the luck of the draw determined who faced who in the opening round fans were treated to the Smith/Steamboat match, both of whom were faces. Ricky won the match when the contest was stopped after Smith missed a dropkick and injured his groin falling onto the ropes.

The following round Steamboat was eliminated by Randy Savage, a man who would be one of his biggest rivals for the next year and half.

Their epic match for The WWF Intercontinental Title at "Wrestlemnia III" is still considered one of the all time best matches.
6. One of Steamboat's most bloody rivals was the sadistic 1980s heel, The Magnificent Muraco. On the January 4, 1986 segment of "Saturday Nights Main Event" Muraco and manager Mr. Fuji battled Steamboat and who?

Answer: The Junkyard Dog

In the summer of 1985, Ricky Steamboat became embroiled in a long and bloody rivalry against The Magnificent Muraco and his manager Mr Fuji. The feud erupted in a televised match when the dastardly duo of Fuji and Muraco attacked Steamboat and hung him over the ropes by his karate belt. Muraco and his vicious manager then took turns whipping Ricky with a leather belt.

In January 1986 Steamboat teamed with the popular Junkyard Dog to defeat Muraco and Fuji in a televised tag team match.
7. On March 27, 1988, Ricky Steamboat was one of the fourteen wrestlers to compete in the tournament for the WWF Heavyweight Title at "Wrestlemania IV". Who defeated Ricky in the first round of that tournament?

Answer: Greg Valentine

When the tournament brackets for the WWF Heavyweight Title tournament were revealed many fans were hoping that if Steamboat defeated Greg Valentine and Randy Savage bested Butch Reed, a Steamboat/Savage rematch of "Wrestlemania III" would happen. Although Savage did defeat Butch Reed, Steamboat lost to the ever cagey and dangerous Greg Valentine. That match would be Steamboat's last high profile match in the WWF for almost three years.
8. On November 19, 1991, at the "Clash of Champions XVII", Steamboat made his surprise return to WCW and promptly won the WCW Tag Team Titles with Dustin Rhodes. Who did they defeat?

Answer: Larry Zbyszko and Arn Anderson

After a forgettable return to the WWF in the spring and summer of 1991, in which Steamboat wore a ridiculous "Dragon" outfit, spit fire, and wallowed in the mid card he made a surprise return to WCW. On November 19, 1991 he was revealed as the mystery partner of Dustin Rhodes. Together the team of Rhodes and Steamboat defeated Larry Zbyszko and Arn Anderson aka "The Enforcers" to win the WCW Tag Team Titles.

This marked the second time that Ricky made his return to WCW as a surprise partner, in January 1989 he was the mystery partner for the late Eddie Gilbert against Ric Flair and Barry Windham.
9. On September 2, 1992, Ricky Steamboat won the WCW Television Title at the "Clash of Champions XX". What future mega star did he defeat for the belt on this night?

Answer: Steve Austin

On September 2, 1992, Ricky Steamboat defeated Steve Austin to win the WCW Television Title in match where Austin's pesky manager Paul E Dangerously was suspended above the ring in a cage. Dangerously, the head of the vile "Dangerous Alliance" had been a thorn in Steamboat's side of months preventing him from defeating both Rick Rude and Steve Austin for the WCW United Sates and Television Titles respectively. Steamboat's title reign was very short as just under a month later he lost the strap to Scott Steiner.
10. In honor of his famed wrestling career and his impressive accomplishments Ricky Steamboat was honored with an induction into "The WWE Hall of Fame". In what year did this take place?

Answer: 2009
