Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. In which comic book series did Spider-Man first appear?

Answer: Amazing Fantasy

Spidey made his debut in the fifteenth issue of "Amazing Fantasy", which hit the newsstands in August 1962. Both "Strange Tales of Wonder" and "Tales of Suspense" were series that were popular for quite some time back in the golden/silver age of comics and served as a collection of short stories and sort of a testing ground for characters that had potential to get their own books. And of course, "The Amazing Spider-Man" was Spidey's first series which was a result of his immense popularity.

It debuted in March 1963.
2. What is the name of the science exhibit where Peter is bitten by a radioactive spider?

Answer: Experiments in Radioactivity

This was a hard one, huh? In fact, I didn't even know the answer until recently (but now I'll never forget it since it'll be forever nagging me in the back of the head). But if you look as Peter walks down the hallway to the science exhibit in "Amazing Fantasy #15", you can see a sign that advertises the exhibit, along with the title: "Experiments in Radioactivity".
3. What is the Scorpion's real name?

Answer: Mac Gargan

Ol' Scorpy made his first appearance in "The Amazing Spider-Man #20" as the thug Mac Gargan. You might've thought Max Gargan was his name, and that's a common mistake. In fact, I've even seen his name spelled that way in several official Marvel products, including Activision's first 3D Spidey game.
4. Who was the first supervillain that our friendly neighborhood Spider-Man sparred off with?

Answer: The Chameleon

The Chameleon, the evil master of disguise, was indeed the first supervillain that Spidey fought (not counting the nameless thug who killed his Uncle Ben). Chameleon and Spidey battled for the first, but not the last, time in "The Amazing Spider-Man #1". The Green Goblin first appeared in "#14", the Sandman appeared in "#4", and Dr. Octopus appeared in "#3".
5. Which gang of villains appeared alongside the Green Goblin in his first appearance, "The Amazing Spider-Man #14"?

Answer: The Enforcers

The Enforcers, consisting of Fancy Dan, Montana, the cowboy with a lasso, and the big man who thinks that brawn should come before brains, Ox, helped Gobby in a scheme to hijack the production of a movie starring Spidey.
6. What is the first Green Goblin's secret identity?

Answer: Norman Osborn

This should've been an easy one, especially if you saw the Spider-Man movie. The business tycoon Norman Osborn is the man behind the Green Goblin's mask. Harry Osborn is his son (and Peter Parker's best friend), Martha Osborn is (or, actually, was) his wife, and Ben Reilly was Spidey's clone.
7. True or False: Harry Osborn died.

Answer: True

Yep, old Harry died in his Green Goblin costume (like father like son, eh?) after realizing what he had done was wrong and just after being rescued by Spider-Man, his best friend.
8. Who was the first supervillain to actually defeat Spider-Man?

Answer: Dr. Octopus

Doc Ock defeated Spidey by grabbing our hero with all of his mechanical arms, then throwing him out of a window, nearly knocking him unconscious.
9. Who is the scientist who accidentally transformed himself into that roaring reptile, the Lizard?

Answer: Dr. Curt Connors

Curt Connors transformed himself into the Lizard while drinking a formula which contained lizard DNA in hopes of regrowing his arm, which he lost in a war. Tony Stark was Ol' Shellhead, Iron Man, Reed Richards was the stretchy leader of the Fantastic Four, Mr. Fantastic, and Dr. Smythe was the creator of the original Spider Slayers.

His son later went on to create the cooler, sleeker, and more advanced Spider Slayers.
10. Who was the pretty redhead whom Peter met at the offices of the Daily Bugle?

Answer: Betty Brant

The first girl Peter fell in love with was the pretty redhead Betty Brant. However, their relationship was doomed from the start: She never liked the adventurous type, and how could you get any more adventurous than being Spider-Man?!
11. Who was the niece of Peter's former next door neighbor, Anna, and the girl who Peter eventually married?

Answer: Mary Jane Watson

Peter tried to evade Anna Watson's niece for months, thinking her to be the dull type, but when he finally saw Mary Jane, he knew that he had hit the jackpot.
12. Who was the beautiful blonde who Peter met during college, and who ultimately died at the hands of the sinister Green Goblin?

Answer: Gwen Stacy

Gwen Stacy was considered Peter's first true love. As their relationship was going well, the Green Goblin returned and struck again, this time throwing Gwen Stacy off of a bridge and killing her.
13. Where did Spider-Man find the Venom symbiote?

Answer: a distant planet

Spidey found the oozy, black Venom symbiote on a distant planet during the "Marvel Superhero Secret Wars" saga.
14. Which human did the Venom symbiote bond with?

Answer: Eddie Brock

The Venom symbiote, after being rejected by Spidey, tried to find someone who had equal hatred for the wallcrawler. He found that person in Eddie Brock, a disgruntled ex-journalist from "The Daily Globe". Brock blamed his job loss on Spidey, and he and the symbiote became fast friends. Cletus Kasady was Carnage, Steve Rogers was Captain America, and J. Jonah Jameson is that Spidey-hating publisher of "The Daily Bugle".
15. Who was Venom's spawn?

Answer: Carnage

Carnage was created when, in a rush to escape from prison, Venom accidentally left behind a small portion of his symbiote suit, and it bonded with the homicidal maniac, Cletus Kasady. Bloodlust I made up, and Deadpool was a superhero.
16. Which college did Peter attend?

Answer: Empire State University

Peter took classes at the fictional Empire State University, but the New York University was in reach. However, he and his Aunt May never had enough money to send him to such prestigious colleges as Harvard or Yale.
17. Yes or No: Did a female Dr. Octopus take over for the regular Dr. Octopus when he was believed to be dead?

Answer: Yes

A female Doc Ock did in fact take over, but only for a short while. However, she did almost kill Spidey.
18. Who publishes "The Daily Bugle"?

Answer: J. Jonah Jameson

J. Jonah Jameson has been the publisher of "NOW Magazine" and "The Daily Bugle" newspaper for as long as most New Yorkers (at least in the comics) can remember.
19. Who created Spider-Man's clone?

Answer: The Jackal

Although the Green Goblin was behind the infamous "Clone Saga" from the "Spider-Man" comics, it was the Jackal who created the Spidey clone back in the 1970s.
20. Who was framed for being the Hobgoblin?

Answer: Ned Leeds

Ned Leeds, "The Daily Bugle" reporter and love of Betty Brant's life, was believed to have been the Hobgoblin, but was later found out to just have been framed by another.
