In this case only one of the two remaining queens will win the hand. This hand actually happened in the 2013 WSOP Asia Pacific Main Event between Daniel Negreanu and George Tsatsis. Negreanu had many more chips than Tsatsis but he overplayed his hand.

It was clear Tsatsis probably had the jack but Negreanu went with it anyway. He got lucky on the river to win the hand and knock Tsatsis out of the tournament.

4. Percentages: You hold 5c5s and your opponent holds 7h7d. The board reads As2d6cJh. You have two outs to win the hand. What are your chances as a percentage? (Choose the percentage that is most accurate.)

Answer: 5%

In this case you have only two outs - either of the remaining fives. As such your chance of winning as a percentage is 5%. Preflop your chance would be 20%, Postflop that drops to 10%, and post turn it drops to 5%. These percentages would of course change if any flush or straight draws are added into the mix.

As a general rule flush draws add nine outs, open ended straight draws add eight outs and gutshot straight draws add four outs.

5. Calculating Outs: You hold Th8h and your opponent holds 9d9s. The board reads 7h9hTc8c with the river left to come. It's the moment of truth, how many outs do you have to win the hand?

Answer: 11

You would have 11 outs - either of the remaining tens (2) for a bigger full house and any heart (9) for a flush. This hand actually happened in the 2013 WSOP One Drop Tournament between Antonio Esfandiari and Richard Yong. Preflop Yong was a 2 to 1 favorite but Esfandiari had a ton of outs after the flop, 17 to be exact.

The 8c took away six of those outs, any nonheart jack or six. If a nonheart jack or six came the pot would be split. Esfandiari pushed all-in on the flop and was happy to get called by Yong with his myriad of outs.

The 5h came on the river giving Esfandiari a flush and the win, keeping his hopes of defending his One Drop title alive.

6. The Nuts: You are in a hand against one other player at the final table of the World Series of Poker Main Event. Your hand is 7d7s and your opponent holds Ad9d. The board reads Ac9c7h5c. Now for the moment of truth, at this point do you have the nuts? (Pick the answer that is most accurate.)

Answer: No, my opponent has four outs to beat me.

In this hand your opponent has four outs, he needs to catch either of the two remaining aces or either of the two remaining nines to win the hand. Preflop the pocket sevens are a slight favorite but most people consider this hand to be a coin flip since the odds are so close. The pocket sevens are only a 53.60% favorite. On the flop the pocket sevens become a commanding favorite with an 83% chance of winning. The turn increases that to a 91% chance.

This hand also happened during the 2013 WSOP One Drop Tournament. Chris Klodnicki had the sevens and Anthony Gregg the Ad9d. Gregg won this hand when the 9h came on the river and went on to beat Klodnicki heads up to win the title. Gregg won $4,830,000 by taking down this tournament.

Although either of the aces or the jack of clubs would give your opponent a better full house, it is only the queen of spades that gives him a royal flush and that is the highest possible hand in Texas Hold'em. The aces would give him aces full of jacks versus your jacks full of tens (AAAJJ vs JJJTT) and the jack of clubs gives him jacks full of aces versus your jacks full of tens (JJJAA vs JJJTT).

9. Calculating Outs: Your opponent holds QdTh and you hold 7s8s. The board is AsTdQc2s. How many outs do you have to hit the flush and win the hand? (Be careful.)

Answer: Seven

Under normal circumstances if you are four flushed you have nine outs. In this case however, two of those outs will give your opponent a full house which would beat your flush. The queen of spades and the ten of spades are not outs for you to win the hand therefore you have seven outs not nine (9-2=7).
