Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Just in case you are either partially blind, or did not read my warning above, do NOT play this quiz. If you play this, expect tears, not points. *Please note the misfortune starts making you cry at question 3* At Briny Beach, the place where the Baudelaires learnt their parents were dead, Violet was skipping rocks. She was also thinking about an invention she wanted to build. What was the invention?

Answer: A machine that retrieves rocks after you skipped them.

Sunny was biting things and Klaus was examining creatures in tide pools. Violet was, as I said before, skipping rocks into the place she would, in ten books time, be travelling through. Please do not read about that, as it is, if possible, even worse than the book you have foolishly taken a quiz on.
2. '"It only seems scary,"____ said, as if reading _____ thoughts, "because of all the mist"'. Fill in the FIRST blank.

Answer: Klaus

'"It only seems scary," KLAUS said, as if reading his sister's thoughts,"because of all the mist"'.

Klaus was talking about the mysterious figure approaching them, who turned out to be Mr. Poe. Klaus was talking to Violet, as apposed to Sunny or someone more fortunate than the Baudelaires.
3. This is your last chance to turn away from this quiz because the misfortune starts in this very question. The Baudelaire's treacherous guardian, Count Olaf, is both a count and an actor. Do we find out why he has a tattoo of an eye on his left ankle in the first book?

Answer: No

Please do not think the suspense of why Olaf has a tattoo on his ankle is an excuse to read the other books. The rest of his acting troupe do not have the same tattoo, so it is probably not that. Assume he has it for no reason and leave your computer, laptop or the room your friend is reading aloud the questions and answers to this quiz before you discover the unfortunate answers to more horrible questions. If you already know the answer, please either read something happier, take a forgetfullness potion, or commit suicide.
4. Olaf forced the Baudelaires to cook for his troupe, so they went to his neighbours and used her cookbooks in her own library. P.S. you don't want to find out the answer.

Answer: true

He did, and although he did not specify he wanted roast beef as opposed to puttanesca sauce, you must not read what happened to the Baudelaires when dinner came. If you have already read about that, take a forgetfullness potion, read less unfortunate books or commit suicide.
5. Because I want to attempt to put something fortunate into this quiz, I would ask, what is 1+1? But, because funtrivia does not like a mixture of happy and sad questions in the same quiz, I cannot. When did Count Olaf strike Violet across the face?

Answer: He didn't.

I will not tell you what he did instead! Wait, I have to to make it an interesting quiz. (Don't you mean unfortunate quiz?)

He struck Klaus across the face when he reminded Olaf he had only provided him with a bed, not beds. When they compl- I won't tell you about that in case you haven't read that.
6. At how many treacherous banks did the Baudelaires have to ask for Mr. Poe before they found him?

Answer: Three

Trustworthy Bank, Faithful Savings and Subservient Financial Services. I assumed the banks were treacherous because it is a treacherous book. As explained in 'The Austere Academy', assumptions are dangerous to make, especially in the morning. Unfortunately for me, I am not only writing this in the morning, but underwater, trying to escape the shark above me.
7. Which of the Baudelaires didn't suffer direct physical pain from Count Olaf?

Answer: Violet

Klaus got struck across the face by Olaf and Sunny ached from being stuck in a cage thirty feet from the ground! Violet's shoulder was bleeding from the grappling hook tearing through her shoulder, but Olaf didn't do that to her and you shouldn't find out what did.
8. Although I think it mad I ever thought to pick up one of his books, I find Lemony Snicket a good author. Which of these unfortunate words did Lemony define incorrectly?

Answer: Neither of these

He defines many words incorrectly according to the situation, although this book doesn't contain any. If I were to attempt to copy Mr. Snicket, I would define 'unfortunate' as meaning 'a bad book to read' in this sentence: 'The Bad Beginning' is unfortunate and fruitless. Please do not tell me I am wrong, as although I am stubborn (I am not stubborn!), I am not wrong.'
9. How did Count Olaf blackmail Violet into marrying him?

Answer: He put Sunny in a cage and threatened to drop her from the tower.

Unfortunately, you will now know the answer, and I will have to trust/blackmail you not to tell anyone the answer, including yourself. Do not read book the thirteenth 'The End' to see Olaf put in a cage.
10. If I were to be writing a quiz on a nice, happy subject, I would want to end on a high note. Because I am not, this will be the worst question yet so this is your last opportunity to skip out of the room/dungeon/haunted supermarket you are in before you see the last question. Which of Count Olaf's assistants switches the lights off in the theatre so they can escape?

Answer: The man with warts on his face

Klaus held up Sunny so she wouldn't get lost in the panicking audience. Violet made her way to the lights to switch them on while scaring away people thinking she was a ghost due to her white dress. Please note your life will now be miserable.
