Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. I'm off to my first day at Glenwood School! What grade am I entering?

Answer: Kindergarten

On the first day of school, Ramona's older sister Beezus and her friend, Mary Jane, offer to walk Ramona to school, but she refuses. "Ramona the Pest" was published in 1968, thirteen years after the previous book in the series, "Beezus and Ramona."
2. I have to walk to school with a boring boy whose little sister, Willa Jean, is such a sloppy baby! What is the boy's name?

Answer: Howie

Howie Kemp appears in most of the "Ramona" books, including "Ramona and Her Father". His mother, Mrs. Kemp, is friends with Ramona's mother, Mrs. Quimby. Howie has curly blonde hair and dresses as a cat with a broken tail for Halloween.
3. I love my teacher because she taught me the "Dawnzer" song. What is my kindergarten teacher's name?

Answer: Miss Binney

The "Dawnzer" song is actually "The Star Spangled Banner". Ramona incorrectly hears the lyrics "the dawn's early light" as "the dawnzer lee light." She assumes this means the song is about a lamp, so later when her sister, Beezus, is reading she tells her to turn on the dawnzer. That gives the rest of the Quimby family a good laugh and makes Ramona mad!
4. There is a girl in my class with long, springy curls that I dream of pulling, to watch them go "boing!" What is her name?

Answer: Susan

Ramona and Susan don't get along very well. Ramona eventually does pull one of Susan's curls and is sent to sit on a bench as punishment. Later in the story, she pulls Susan's curls again when Susan calls Ramona a pest. Miss Binney punishes Ramona, and Ramona drops out of school because she thinks Miss Binney doesn't love her anymore.
5. The cutest boy is in my class, and I need to kiss him! Which boy do I chase each morning on the playground?

Answer: Davy

Davy is small and thin, but fast. Ramona is determined to catch him and give him a kiss. Davy likes to wear a long, black cape to school and pretend he is Mighty Mouse.
6. I lent Howie my old stuffed bunny for show and tell, and Miss Binney tied something around the bunny to spruce him up. What was it?

Answer: A red ribbon

Howie didn't have anything for show and tell, so Ramona lent him an old bunny that their cat, Picky-picky, had chewed up. Howie was not happy, but Miss Binney gave the bunny a red ribbon to improve its appearance. This led to a big fight over who the ribbon belonged to - Howie or Ramona?
7. I love stomping in rain puddles with my new red boots. Oh no, I'm stuck in the mud! Who will save me?

Answer: Henry Huggins

Ramona was very excited to splash in puddles with her new, red rain boots. She had been wearing Howie's old, worn out brown rain boots before her mother took her to buy new ones. Upon finding a parking lot with some mud in it, Ramona stomped around and got stuck. Henry Huggins rescued Ramona from the mud, as well as going back to fetch her nice boots!
8. Halloween is the best! This year I am dressing up as what gruesome creature, known for having warts?

Answer: Witch

Ramona was very excited to dress as a witch for Halloween because her school has all of the costumed children participate in a Halloween parade. She ran around yelling "Yah! Yah! I'm the baddest witch in the world!" She got scared when no one knew who she was under the mask, and thought no one cared about her anymore. Ramona made a sign with her name on it to carry in the Halloween parade so everyone would know who she was.
9. I'm late to school! What do I lose in class that makes me the center of attention?

Answer: Tooth

Ramona loses her tooth and is the first kindergartener to lose a tooth during class. Unfortunately, she pulls Susan's curls again and gets sent home, forgetting to take her tooth. Ramona eventually gets her tooth back from Miss Binney to leave for the Tooth Fairy.
10. What letter in my name do I love writing with cat ears, whiskers and a tail?

Answer: Q

Ramona is very creative and spices up her "Q" by adding kitty ears on top, whiskers on the sides, and a tail at the bottom. She gets the idea for the tail from Miss Binney, but the ears and whiskers are Ramona's invention. At the end of the book, Ramona receives a letter from Miss Binney, and she writes the "Q" in her name just the way Ramona does.
