Grandpa Smedary arrives late, Sing trips, and no one in these books does anything as silly as playing the oboe! Also called the Dark Talent, only Alcatraz and Alcatraz the First have had this Talent. In some ways all the Talents are related to the Breaking Talent. Only Smedrys have Talents, and they have Talents whether or not they are a Smedry by marriage or by blood.

Attica and Shasta thought it would work out, and it did, until Attica thought Smedary talents for everyone would be a good idea. Then, well, it didn't. Their split was because Attica wanted to provide Smedary Talents for everyone, and Shasta, seeing that this would not be good, tried to stop him.

You find this out in "The Royal Epilogue" (Not a Chapter) during his announcement. His plans are foiled when Shasta, his wife, steals the book he needs from the Royal Archives (Not a Library). In the fourth book Attica heads out on a mission to the Library of Congress to recover another copy. Once Alcatraz realizes this would be disastrous, he sets out to stop his dad. All along Alcatraz's mother has been trying to stop Attica.

Answer: a pilot

I suppose you might think she is a psycho, but I don't think she has actually has been diagnosed. Otherwise, she's not of the direct line, and being a Smedary, who'd expect her to be normal? Anyway, she flies Alcatraz, Bastille, and Kaz to Mokia, a country that's under siege by evil librarians, on her ship the Colorfly. Being a sister to SingSing and Australia, she inherited a Talent, being really bad at math, and the family trait of recklessness. You don't meet Aidee until the fourth book.

Answer: A Truthfinder's Lens

A single clear lens on the top of the sarcophagus was found after he entered the broken-time area. Grandpa Smedary later identified it as a Truthfinder's Lens. (This all occurred in the second book.) He doesn't think that it will come in handy, but in the third book, "Alcatraz Versus the Knights of Craystallia", he uses it to tell when his "groupies" are lying.

Hence, it gets him back on track, and focuses him on the problem at hand - evil librarian invaders.

Answer: Vaporize all non-living things

Pink bears are blast-wave grenades; blue ones are suction-wave grenades. Who woulda thought?
You find this out in the fourth book. In the first chapter, when Bastille and Alcatraz are testing the grenades they never really test this one because they quite like being clothed, but Bastille tells Alcatraz what it does.

Answer: The Dragonaut

The first glass ship they flew/crashed was in the shape of a dragon. Hence, Dragonaut. Australia, the pilot, Bastille, Kaz, and Draulin retrieve Alcatraz from the airport and go to take him to Nahalla. Instead, they go to find Grandpa Smedry and save Attica, Alcatraz's father. They crash the ship when Killiman, a Librarian from the Scrivener's Bones, attacks them while they are flying.

Answer: Grandpa Smedary, Quinten, Bastille, and Sing

In their first mission, they storm the city's library to retrieve the Sands of Rashid. Grandpa Smedry first retrieves Alcatraz from his foster parent's house. They go to their "base" at a gas station to meet Sing and Quinten. Later, Bastille drives up and rebukes Grandpa Smedry for not notifying her, their Knight of Crystallia.

Answer: Fishsticks

Book Three, Chapter Two introduction. Believe me. It's there. In the introduction, Alcatraz makes up this word to describe fishsticks. He claims there is nothing quite as disgusting as fishsticks. However, he uses this to teach a lesson. Fishsticks, he notes, are all pretty much the same. If you don't like one brand, don't bother trying the other brands.

He continues to say that some people treat books like this. People try one, they think they've tried 'em all. However, books are all very different, even in the same genre.

Answer: Responsibility

Book Three, Chapter Three, Introduction. It also stops them from eating candy bars. Alcatraz notes this when he is explaining why his ancestors gave up their kingdom. If they were kings, they would have to have responsibility. Hence, no penguin rides.
