1. Who narrates this book?

Answer: Jake

In the first book of the series, Jake narrates as the group is given their powers, learns about the Yeerk invasion (hence the title), and decides to use their new abilities to fight.

2. Which animal did Rachel morph during the battle?

Answer: Elephant

Rachel's elephant proved very useful during the battle. Jake fought as a tiger, Cassie became a horse, and Visser Three morphed the terrifying Antarean Bogg.

3. How are Jake and Rachel related?

Answer: cousins

The other members are connected in several ways: Marco is Jake's best friend, Cassie is Rachel's best friend, and Jake protected Tobias from bullies once.

4. What was Elfangor's full name?

Answer: Prince Elfangor-Sirinial-Shamtul

Just like humans, Andalites shortened their names. Prince Elfangor died at the hands of Visser Three just after giving the Animorphs their powers.

5. What color was the box Elfangor used to turn the kids into Animorphs?

It turns out in a later book (#20, "The Discovery") that the "blue box" is called an "Escafil Device," after the Andalite who compacted morphing technology into the cube.

Of course the word "Animorph" is a mash-up of "animal" and "morpher," but Marco had to make a joke. Luckily for them (and us!) the name stuck.

7. Which alien species has NOT EVER been infested by the Yeerks?

Answer: Helmacron

In the first book, we see Taxxon-Controllers and Hork-Bajir-Controllers. We also meet the only Andalite-Controller, Visser Three. The Helmacrons don't even appear until #24, "The Suspicion." Besides, the Helmacrons are far too small to be infested.

8. What is Chapman's job?

Answer: assistant principal at the kids' school

Chapman is a high-ranking Controller whose job at the school makes him come very close to discovering the Animorphs' identities. Jake's mom and dad are a writer and a pediatrician, respectively. The policeman almost forced Cassie to become a Controller, but luckily the Animorphs saved the day.

9. Tobias gets trapped in a red-tailed hawk morph. What other animal did he morph BEFORE he got stuck?

Answer: Cat

He morphed his cat, Dude. Tobias was the first kid to morph in the whole series. When he got stuck, he became what the Andalites call a "nothlit," which Applegate came up with by rearranging the letters in the word "Hilton," her favorite hotel chain.

10. And finally, what was the name of Marco's gorilla morph?

Answer: Big Jim

OK, this one's an inside joke with myself. Big Jim is the gorilla's name, and boy does it fit! Dakota, Tank, and Ike are the names of dogs owned by my brother and my two best friends. Hope you had fun!
