Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. What is the best way to hunt mice?

Answer: step lightly

In "Into the Wild", Lionheart and Tigerclaw teach Firepaw, Graypaw, and Ravenpaw about stalking. Lionheart says there's a big difference between hunting rabbits and hunting mice. Graypaw says mice will feel your pawsteps before smelling you. Then Lionheart asks what the best way to hunt mice is. Firepaw answers with 'step lightly'.
2. Which is NOT part of the warrior code?

Answer: Eat any prey you catch.

Cats on hunting duty catch prey for the Clan, not themselves. The patrols bring the fresh-kill back to the camp, where the kits, queens, and elders eat first. Apprentices who disobey are punished.
3. One useful battle move involves hitting your enemy's head with your claws sheathed. What is this attack called?

Answer: front paw blow

The field guide says:
Front paw blow- Frontal attack. Bring your front paw down hard on your opponent's head. Claws sheathed.

The other attacks I used as answer choices are incorrect because:
The front paw strike involves slicing at your enemy with claws unsheathed.
The back kick is kicking your enemy with your hind legs while leaning on your front paws.
The leap-and-hold is where a smaller cat jumps on top of a larger enemy and holds on with their claws.
4. Where do apprentices sleep?

Answer: in the apprentice den

The apprentices have their own den. The apprentices eat, talk, and play outside the den. Once they become apprentices, they leave their mothers in the nursery. After they become warriors, they sleep in the warrior den.
5. In "Warriors" terms, what is an assessment?

Answer: when an apprentice hunts and is watched by his/her mentor

Most apprentices do an assessment before becoming warriors. Apprentices should never be sent into enemy territory unless they are on a mission.
6. Why do apprentice's names end in 'paw'?

Answer: because their paws are on the journey to becoming a warrior

This can be found in the Field Guide. Clan leaders chose a mentor that may have already been a mentor and is a loyal and strong warrior.
7. How old do kits have to be to become apprentices?

Answer: six moons old

"I gather you all for one of my favorite duties," Firestar announced. "Hollykit, Lionkit and Jaykit have reached their SIXTH MOON."

I quoted that from "The Sight", book number one of "Warriors: The Power of Three".
NOTE: the phrase 'sixth moon' was not capitalized in the book, I just did that to emphasize the correct answer.
8. In the old forest, where did most apprentices go before becoming warriors?

Answer: to the Moonstone in Mothermouth

Apprentices go with their leader and sometimes other warriors. The warriors and apprentices wait outside the cave while the leader and a lucky apprentice and/or warrior go in. Firepaw was one apprentice who went to see the Moonstone. Tigerclaw, Graypaw, and Ravenpaw also went. Tigerclaw went into the cave, but then went back out. Graypaw and Ravenpaw stayed outside the entire time.
9. Now for some real apprentices! Which of these cats was NOT Firestar's apprentice?

Answer: Birchfall

Firestar did mentor Cinderpelt for half of her apprenticeship. Birchfall was mentored by Ashfur.
10. Brackenfur has mentored many apprentices. Which of these did he NOT mentor?

Answer: Snowkit

This was a bit of a trick. However, Brackenfur DID mentor Tawnypelt, just not for very long. He is mentoring Hollypaw in "The Power of Three". Firestar told Brackenfur he could mentor Snowkit. BUT! Snowkit was carried off by a hawk before he was old enough to become an apprentice.
I hope you got enough correct to become a warrior!
