Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Chapter Eleven: 'The Desert' Iroh reveals that he has connections using a move performed in what game?

Answer: Pai Sho

Trapped in the desert after Appa's kidnapping, Aang and the others, stranded, try to make their way back to civilization. They eventually reach the Sandbender camp only to discover they sold off Appa. It's enough to anger Aang into the Avatar State though he is saved from causing harm.

At the same time, Toph's parents' hired hands, Xin Fu and Master Yu, arrive at the edge of the desert only to find Zuko and Iroh. Zuko and Iroh, stopping for a rest in their journey, are met by a group of mercenaries hunting fugitives and manage to fight them off. Iroh manages to protect himself, unveiling a connection to the Order of the White Lotus and Zuko with a bit of help from the patrons of a local tavern.
2. Chapter Twelve: 'The Serpent's Pass' What name is given to the baby delivered outside of Ba Sing Se?

Answer: Hope

Leaving the desert, Aang and the others head through Serpent's Pass en route for Ba Sing Se to follow after Appa and speak to the King about the eclipse. Traveling with one of the Kyoshi Warriors, Suki, they end up overcoming a Fire Nation ship and the serpent of the pass in time to deliver a pregnant woman to the steps of Ba Sing Se just in time for her baby's birth. Aang and Momo, heading forth to search, discover that the Fire Nation is advancing on Ba Sing Se at the same time.

Zuko and Iroh, now posing as refugees, also head to Ba Sing Se on a boat and cross path with Jet and his Freedom Fighters, teaming up to steal food to improve their trip.
3. Chapter Thirteen: 'The Drill' Who operates the drill that is expected to break through the wall of Ba Sing Se?

Answer: Azula

With a giant Fire Nation drill poised to break through the wall of Ba Sing Se, Aang puts the hunt for Momo on hold as he and the others infiltrate the vehicle to face off against Azula and her henchwomen. The drill manages to break into the wall, but not through it as a result of the Avatar's assistance, saving it from the assault.

Zuko and Iroh, at the same time, arrive via the refugee boat on the other side of Ba Sing Se and gain access to the city while the Freedom Fighters try to recruit them. During this time, Jet seems to become suspicious of the duo and vows to expose them when he feels that Firebending may be involved.
4. Chapter Fourteen: 'City of Walls and Secrets' The Dai Li claim to be protectors of which of these?

Answer: Traditions

Formally entering Ba Sing Se, Appa is still on Aang's mind but the group must speak to the King about the coming eclipse. Unfortunately, city protocol prevents them from speaking to him at all, and a committee of 'cultural authorities' known as Dai Li stop anyone from speaking about the war or performing out of line. Long Feng, the figurehead of the Dai Li, threatens their hunt for Appa if they go against the city.

Zuko and Iroh, finally getting comfortable in Ba Sing Se as well, continue to be pursued by Jet and the Freedom Fighters. Jet gets into a fight with Zuko while he attempts to reveal his nature as a Firebender and he gets caught by Dai Li as well, ending up brainwashed to believe the city's odd ideals.
5. Chapter Fifteen: 'The Tales of Ba Sing Se' What song does Iroh sing for his son?

Answer: Leaves from the Vine

While Toph and Katara wash up to begin their 'girls' day out' at a local Ba Sing Se spa, Iroh heads to the local market to buy small items and interact with the citizens, extending help where he can before heading to the hillside to have a picnic and honour his late son. Aang, finding the Ba Sing Se Zoo, helps its owner relocate outside the city but has some troubles getting the animals moving. Sokka's day is less stressful; he stumbles on a poetry house and spends his day with the girls there...spouting haikus. Zuko goes on a date with a customer at the teahouse, Jen, and lets his guard down for a change. Momo, dreaming of Appa, heads out to search for the missing bison and gets into some nightmarish situations before being led to a footprint - a sign that Appa has been in the city recently.
6. Chapter Sixteen: 'Appa's Lost Days' During his time away from Aang, Appa encountered which past acquaintance of Aang and the group?

Answer: Suki

While Aang and the others searched for Appa, it turned out that Appa was on a four-week adventure of his own. After Appa was captured by the desert Earthbenders, he was sold off to a Firebender circus. After freeing himself and returning to the site of the desert library, Appa wandered, eventually managing to cross paths with Suki (and, disappointingly, Azula). Ultimately, Appa returns to the Eastern Air Temple as a last resort, encountering a guru who recommends he find Aang in Ba Sing Se. It leads to a final step in his journey wherein he arrives in the city with a note only to be captured by Long Feng.

It's shortly after this that Momo is led to Appa's footprint in the Ba Sing Se streets.
7. Chapter Seventeen: 'Lake Laogai' Lake Laogai is where Appa is imprisoned, but it's also used for which of these purposes?

Answer: Brainwashing

Getting restless, Aang and the others defy Ba Sing Se's rules and go out searching for Appa with posters in hand. Iroh and Zuko, meanwhile, while being assured they could have their own tea shop in the city, come to discover that Aang and the others are present.

The posters also end up in Jet's possession and he, uncharacteristically, sides with the city. The group realizes that he might be brainwashed, and events lead them to the mysterious Lake Laogai, the site of a facility where locals are mind-controlled and where Appa has been contained. All of this leads to a battle wherein Jet is killed fighting to help the group defeat Long Feng (even with his mind under control) and Zuko, there to capture the bison, decides to free Appa instead, going against his own expectations. Finally, Appa and Aang are reunited.
8. Chapter Eighteen: 'The Earth King' Which of these ultimately leads the King of Ba Sing Se to believe in the conspiracy against his city?

Answer: The Fire Nation drill

Realizing that the forces in Ba Sing Se won't let them proceed, the group breaks into the palace to speak to the Earth King. They manage to infiltrate and tell the truth about Long Feng's treasonous activities with the Dai Li and succeed in proving the conspiracy and having him imprisoned. It allows them to receive all of the hidden intelligence passing into Ba Sing Se amongst which they find a letter from Toph's mother, the message from Guru Pathik brought in by Appa, and information as to the whereabouts of Sokka and Katara's father. The catch, however, is that Toph's letter is actually from her pursuers, and strings in Ba Sing Se are still being pulled by Long Feng. The group decides to split up to handle their personal business as Suki and the Kyoshi warriors announce their arrival...even though it's actually Azula in disguise.

All the while, Zuko, returning from Lake Laogai, deals with the consequences of going against his nature.
9. Chapter Nineteen: 'The Guru' Toph is able to escape captivity by bending which of these materials?

Answer: Metal

In Ba Sing Se, Katara assists in helping the Earth Kingdom's forces to plan for the Day of Black Sun, but little does she know, Azula, posing as Suki, is already learning of the plan from the King himself. Azula leverages the Dai Li to begin a coup from within, learn the truth about Zuko and Iroh's location from Katara, and capture her. She sends her brother and uncle an invitation on behalf of the Earth King.
Aang drops Sokka off at Chameleon Bay so that Sokka can reunite with his father for a week. Aang, meanwhile, is taught how to gain control of the Avatar State by spending time with the Guru at the Eastern Air Temple. When he senses Katara in trouble, he leaves before his final chakra can be unlocked and heads out to retrieve Sokka.
Toph, meanwhile, captured by her parents' bounty hunters, manages to escape the iron box she's kept inside by mastering metalbending.
10. Chapter Twenty: 'The Crossroads of Destiny' On whom does Katara use the remainder of the spirit water?

Answer: Aang

Aang and Sokka rush back to Ba Sing Se at the same time as Toph while Azula seizes power over the Dai Li. As Zuko and Iroh arrive at the palace to serve the King tea, Azula strikes and captures Zuko, imprisoning him with Katara when she wins. Sokka and Toph step in (after a visit from Iroh) as the coup commences but fall to Azula's henchwomen while Azula herself ascends to the throne. Aang and Iroh head to the Crystal Catacombs to find their imprisoned companions, but Azula follows after them and forces Zuko to make a choice for his honour (and his uncle).

He chooses to side with Azula. To attempt to defeat them, Aang has to unlock his final chakra and regain the ability to master the Avatar State. He does, but in that moment, Azula strikes him with lightning, likely killing him. Iroh is captured when he tries to help Katara, but it allows her to use her spirit water to revive Aang.

They, Sokka, Toph, Momo, and the Earth King fly out of Ba Sing Se on Appa's back as it falls to the coup within.
