Inner peace and a nomad's relationship with a sky bison is more reflective of the Air Nomad lifestyle, as opposed to the Airbending art.

As long as they are within a reasonable perimeter, they can harness their energy and channel the earth from beneath them. For instance, in "Sozin's Comet, Part 2: The Old Masters", Bumi was able to Earthbend, even when suspended from the ground.

According to Iroh, fire is the element of power, consisting of overpowering force tempered by the unflinching will to accomplish tasks and desires. Similarly, water is the element of change, earth is the element of substance, while air is the element of freedom.

Airbenders are not capable of flight, but hovering. Normal Air Nomads can only hover for short periods of time, while Avatars can hover for extended periods of time, as seen with Aang in the Battle of Wulong Forest. The misconception came from their use of gliders, which only allow them to glide in the air by manipulating air currents.
