Aang's natural opposite is Earthbending. Toph needed to teach Aang to stop thinking like an Airbender, so many times she said, "You need to stand your ground and hit it head on!" Whereupon Aang said, "Maybe I should approach it from another angle!"

2. How was Waterbending discovered?

Answer: The Moon pushed and pulled the tides.

Waterbending had the least amount of discussion in "Avatar: The Last Airbender". It was said once when Aang, Sokka, and Katara were in the Northern Water Tribe that the moon was the first waterbender, pushing and pulling the tides of the ocean.

Iroh was teaching Zuko how to redirect lighting. He mentioned each of the four elements as all part of the same thing. Zuko was angry and said "This sounds like Avatar stuff".
