Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. When Toph is teaching Aang Earthbending, what phrase does she use to describe exactly what Aang has to do?

Answer: Hit it head on.

Aang's natural opposite is Earthbending. Toph needed to teach Aang to stop thinking like an Airbender, so many times she said, "You need to stand your ground and hit it head on!" Whereupon Aang said, "Maybe I should approach it from another angle!"
2. How was Waterbending discovered?

Answer: The Moon pushed and pulled the tides.

Waterbending had the least amount of discussion in "Avatar: The Last Airbender". It was said once when Aang, Sokka, and Katara were in the Northern Water Tribe that the moon was the first waterbender, pushing and pulling the tides of the ocean.
3. When Iroh created the ability to redirect lightning, what bending was he studying?

Answer: Water

Iroh was teaching Zuko how to redirect lighting. He mentioned each of the four elements as all part of the same thing. Zuko was angry and said "This sounds like Avatar stuff". Iroh then said "I learned this technique from studying the Water Benders". Aang said it again when Zuko taught him how to redirect lighting.
4. There are 3 Jjings mentioned: Positive, Negative and Neutral. King Bumi said that Neutral Jjing was what Earthbenders used. Which Jjing do Airbenders use?

Answer: Negative

Airbenders use Negative Jjing. Although it's not directly said anywhere in the series, it's implied in multiple episodes. King Bumi said in the episode "The King of Omashu": "Typical Airbender tactics avoid and evade" which is Negative Jjing. Fire Benders use Positive Jjing, and Water Benders use many different types of Jjing.
5. In which episode was Azula first seen?

Answer: The Storm

When Iroh was telling the crew what happened to Zuko, Azula appeared in the crowd of the Agni-Kai cheering against her brother. Although she did say her first line in "The Avatar State", she was also seen once before that at the end of "Siege of the North".
6. One person knew the possibility of Metalbending before Toph was the first one to do it. They said "Metal was a form of earth, just more purified". Who said that?

Answer: The Avatar Guru

When Toph was captured by Master Yu and Xin Fu, they said "Not even you can bend metal!" But, the Guru was the one that said Metal was just a purified form of earth. Xin Fu and Master Yu were both amazed that the metalbending actually happened, not that Toph could do it.
7. When Aang was on the turtle, which Avatar told Aang he had to disregard his teachings of the monks in order to successfully accomplish his task, which was beating Firelord Ozai?

Answer: Yangchen

Aang was hoping to get an answer to not have to kill Firelord Ozai, so he went to Avatar Yangchen. She said to him he had to forget the teachings of the monks in order to complete his task.
8. Who was the longest-lived Avatar?

Answer: Kyoshi

According to the math, Aang lived to be 66 years old, or 166 years depending on whether you count the 100 years he was in ice. Korra came along 70 years after the 100 year war, and she was around 16 years old, while Kyoshi lived to be 230 years old, making her the longest-lived Avatar.
9. Avatar Yangchen had two statues of her in the world. Where were they?

Answer: Eastern and Western Air Temples

The Statues were in the Eastern Air Temple and the Western Air Temple. In the Eastern Air Temple, Yangchen sat in a meditative stance. In the Western Air Temple, she is a part of the wall of statues.
10. Team Avatar went through a powerful war, and many key people died. Who was the only one they didn't actually see die?

Answer: Jet

No one on Team Avatar saw Jet die, he was alone with Longshot, still alive. Princess Yue gave her soul to the moon spirit, causing her death. Admiral Zhao was killed by the Avatar state, and the Wasp who took Momo was killed by Aang's Airbending, the only living creature he killed.
