Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. I am a kangaroo and this is where I keep my baby joey.

Answer: Pouch

Kangaroos and wallabies are marsupials, and this means that they raise their young (joey) inside their pouches. The pouches keep the joeys warm and protected. This is also where they feed until they are old enough to fend for themselves.
2. I am an eagle and I use these to capture my prey.

Answer: Talons

There are several birds who used their sharp claws, called talons, to hunt for food such as mice and water voles. These birds include eagles, owls, hawks and vultures. Once their prey has been captured, they hold on tightly so there is no way of escape.
3. I am a porcupine and I use these to protect myself from predators.

Answer: Quills

Hedgehogs and porcupines have spines called quills which cover their back. The quills bristle up if they are being attacked by a predator. The quills have a very sharp end which can pierce the skin of another animal if they get too close.
4. I am a leech and I use this to remove blood from my host.

Answer: Sucker

A leech is a worm-type creature. They have a sucker at each end of their body, and they use these to attach onto the skin and feed off their host. Using leeches to draw blood has been carried out by physicians for centuries, as it used to be believed they could remove bad blood and replace it with healthy blood.
5. I am a pig and I use these to dig around for truffles.

Answer: Trotters

Pigs, hogs and boars all have feet called trotters. Their trotters have four hoofed toes, two large and two small, which they use for walking and digging for food. Pigs are used in certain parts of the world to dig for truffles. Truffles are a type of mushroom that grow underground and they have a very strong smell which pigs are sensitive to.
6. I am a snail and I use this as my house.

Answer: Shell

A shell is a hard outer layer which some creatures use to protect their soft inner body. Snails belong to a group of creatures called molluscs and they are related to the tortoise. A snail's body is soft and slimy which he uses to slowly slither around the garden, and if he is disturbed, he quickly retreats back into his shell.
7. I am a goldfish and I use this to breathe through.

Answer: Gill

All fish have gills to help them breathe. As they swim, they draw in water through their gills and this automatically removes oxygen to circulate through their blood. They release carbon dioxide back into the water and then start the process all over again. It is similar to how a human would inhale oxygen through their lungs, and then exhale carbon dioxide out again.
8. I am a beautiful peacock and I spread this to show people my blue feathers.

Answer: Train

The blue tail feathers of the peacock are called a train. They extend their train into a large fan-shape if they are being attacked by a predator, as it makes them look larger than they actually are. They also use their train to attract a female mate.
9. My name is Rudolph the reindeer and I have two of these on top of my head.

Answer: Antlers

Reindeer, including Rudolph, have bony horns growing on top of their head. The antlers branch out so they look like mini trees. Each year they lose their antlers and new ones grow in their place.
10. I am a dog and I sometimes use this to shake your hand.

Answer: Paw

A very well-trained dog may be able to do tricks, including shaking their paw with your hand. Each paw has soft velvety pads which dogs use to cushion themselves when they run around, and they also use the pads to grip on to slippery surfaces. Other animals which have paws include cats, rabbits and bears.
