Captain Cook was a British naval officer, explorer and navigator. He was the first man to cross the Antarctic Circle and surveyed the Hawaiian Islands, New Zealand and Australia. In 1779, he was clubbed to death in Hawaii.

Sir Winston Leonard Spencer Churchill was prime minister during the Second World War. In 1953, Sir Winston received the Nobel Prize for Literature. In 1963, the United States of America made him an honorary citizen. He died in 1965.

Silent movies were the first type of movies made. They had no sound and what people said was written on the bottom of the screen.

Frederic Chopin was born in 1810 in Poland and died at 39 years old in 1849 from tuberculosis. He played his first public concert when he was eight. He wrote many pieces of music for the piano.

Cochise was born around 1825 and was a Chirichua Apache. Cochise was regarded as a great warrior (using guerrilla warfare tactics) and an expert horseman. He fought mostly in Arizona and Mexico. Cochise agreed to stop fighting in 1872 and went to live on a reservation in Arizona. He died on 8th June 1874.

Catherine the Great was born in 1729 and was a German princess. Her birth name was Sophie Fredericke Auguste von Anhalt-Zerbst. In 1745 she married Grand Duke Peter of Holstein, who was the next heir to the Russian throne, and was crowned empress in 1762. Catherine the Great founded the first Russian school for girls and a medical college to provide public health care.
