Answer: Jensen

Tom uses J.D.'s dog, Brownie, to track the lost boys in the cave...Lady is in heat and Brownie can easily find her.
2. An old Jewish man is convinced to stop traveling around with his peddler's cart and open a shop in Adenville. Unfortunately, business is bad and this man is too proud to admit that he is starving. What is the man's name?

Answer: Abie Glassman

Tom was the only one in town who knew that Abie's strongbox was empty. Abie made Tom swear on a Bible that he would never tell, because Abie was too proud to admit that his store was failing.
3. When the town schoolteacher decides to retire, a new teacher, Mr. Standish, arrives to take her place. He is much more strict than Miss Thatcher, and paddles the kids when they break the rules. When Tom gets paddled for not tattling on a friend, he vows to make this teacher regret what he did. What scheme does Tom devise to get rid of Mr. Standish?

Answer: tricks the school board in believing that Mr. Standish is a secret whiskey drinker

Tom has his friends help sneak whiskey out of their homes to plant in Mr. Standish's room. They hide empty whiskey bottles in the trash can, too. The school board is ready to fire Mr. Standish and drive him out of town until Tom confesses. He realizes that he has ruined Mr. Standish's reputation, and does the right thing by telling the truth. Mr. Standish thanks Tom for his honesty, and decides that he was really too hard on the kids by paddling them. Tom is punished by Mama and Papa for his scheming, but becomes a hero to his friends!
4. One of Tom and John's friends steps on a rusty nail while playing in a forbidden barn outside of town. His foot becomes so infected that his leg must be amputated from the knee down. Now with a wooden leg, he must re-learn how to get around. What is this boy's name?

Answer: Andy Anderson

Andy feels like he is worthless because he can't do his chores or play with the other boys properly. Using his Great Brain, Tom teaches Andy how to get around on his new leg as easily as with his old leg.
5. In the second book of the series, "More Adventures of the Great Brain", Tom is ordered to help a new girl in town learn to read, write, and act like a girl. She has never been to school or taught to wear dresses before she moves to town with her father. Who is this girl?

Answer: Dotty Blake

Tom encourages Dotty to learn to read and write by reading her the story of Black Beauty. But it's Mamma that finally convinces Dotty to start acting like a girl by making her new dresses and clothes.
6. In the third book, "Me and My Little Brain", John is the only boy living at home while Tom and Sweyn are off at boarding school in Salt Lake City. During this time, the Fitzgeralds end up adopting a young boy named Frankie Pennyworth. What has happened to Frankie's real family?

Answer: they were killed in a landslide

John thinks Frankie is a little monster when he arrives at the Fitzgerald's house. Really Frankie is traumatized by the accident that killed his parents and brother. When he finally is able to remember everything that happened to his family, he makes up with John and becomes his beloved little brother.
7. After Frankie settles into the family, an outlaw escapes from jail and hides in the Fitzgerald's barn. He takes Frankie hostage, and there seems no hope of Frankie living through this kidnapping. But John comes up with a plan to rescue him. What is the name of this ruthless outlaw?

Answer: Cal Roberts

John manages to lasso Cal Roberts' boot while he's asleep, and with the lasso tied over the rafter of the barn, the outlaw must hang there until Papa and Uncle Mark arrive.
8. In "The Great Brain at the Academy", Tom leaves for Salt Lake City to go to Catholic boarding school. Of course his swindling doesn't stop, and Tom devises many schemes to make money off his fellow students. The superintendent of the school is a very strict priest who has no patience for rule breakers. What is the name of this priest?

Answer: Father Rodriguez

Father Rodriguez catches Tom breaking many rules, and Tom is nearly sent home because of it. Luckily for the Great Brain, Father Rodriguez may be strict but he is not cruel. Tom learns to respect him in the end, and convinces Father Rodriguez to make changes to the school that allow the students to have a better life there.
9. Sweyn, Tom and John's older brother, humiliates the boys by having a girlfriend when he is only 14 years old. Sweyn often goes over and sits on the porch with this girl, and holds hands, which results in a lot of teasing from John and Tom's friends. What is the name of this girl?

Answer: Marie Vinson

John and Tom always call her "that stuck-up Marie Vinson", and can't believe that Sweyn would be so cruel to them by going with her. John always says that any boy under the age of 16 was considered a sissy if he had anything to do with girls.
10. The last question is about a character named Calvin Whitlock. He is an adult who is associated with several of the stories in each book, including the one with Mr. Standish, where he was a member of the school board. What is the job of this important man in town?
