The production of chemicals called anthocyanins in grapes is responsible for the grapes being purple in color. The countries that produce the most grapes include, China, France, Italy, and the United States. Dried grapes are known as raisins.

Amethyst is a variety of quartz. Amethysts are mined in several continents of the world. It is the traditional birthstone for February. Amethyst has been a popular stone to use in jewelry since ancient times.

Harold is the title character from "Harold and the Purple Crayon" (1955), a children's book by Crockett Johnson. In the book he uses his purple crayon to draw things as a way to have adventures. Harold appeared in several other books also by Crockett Johnson.

In the book "The Wonderful Wizard of Oz" (1900), the Yellow Brick Road is how Dorothy and her friends travel through Oz to the Emerald City, home of the Wizard. The Yellow Brick Road is also an important feature of the 1939 film "The Wizard of Oz".

Gandalf the Gray is a character in the "Lord of the Rings" series by J.R.R. Tolkien. He is a wizard who aids the main characters on their quests. In appearance he is an old man with a long beard who (at least early on) is often clothed in gray.

The raccoon is native to North America and is easily recognized by its gray coat of fur and its darker colored fur around the eyes which seems to form a mask. Raccoons are omnivores which means they will eat both plants and animals.

Castle Grayskull is a frequent setting of the animated cartoon series "Masters of the Universe". It is the home of the mysterious Sorceress although He-Man is a frequent visitor there. It has a distinctive entrance that looks like the mouth opening for a skull.
