Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Whenever the newspaper tries to remove "Precious Poochie" from the newspaper, which of these groups complains about it to get it back?

Answer: Senior citizens

"Precious Poochie" is at least 50 years old, and the newspaper has recycled their comics ever since (even though the illustrator died long ago). The last time the newspaper tried to cut "Precious Poochie", four busloads of senior citizens from "Leisure Towers" protested.
2. Why did Greg not invite Rowley to his birthday party?

Answer: Rowley quit working for Greg in his lawn service

Rowley was supposed to be Greg's co-worker for the V.I.P. Lawn Service, which was meant to pay the $83 debt for the smoothies ordered in the country club. When Greg tried to manipulate Rowley into doing all the hard work, Rowley promptly left the job. Because Greg was in the red, his mother took the money given by his relatives in order to pay for the bill.
3. According to Greg, which of these is NOT a problem about "friend parties"?

Answer: Greg's father invites his friends' children

Because Greg's mother invites her friends' children, he ends up with people he barely knows. Because the parents buy the presents, even asking for a video game is not viable; he will get a video game that he would not want to play.
4. Heather expected Greg to help her, for he was right next to her. However, he refused to do this task. What did he refuse to do?

Answer: Clean up vomit next to her

A kid threw up next to Heather's lifeguard chair because he ate too much ice cream. However, Greg felt that cleaning up vomit would be too much to do. He accepted that, for he heard that Heather would be going to college next year; long-distance relationships generally don't work.
5. Greg Heffley's comic submission of "Hey, People!" that was to take place of "L'il Cutie" won and thus went on the newspapers.

Answer: False

Instead of cancelling "L'il Cutie", the cartoonist's son took over. This put Greg's father in a really bad mood. Greg's "Hey, People!" was meant to be half comic, half advice column. Should this have won, it would have made it a better place for Greg.
6. Why did Rowley's father send Greg and Rowley to bed early?

Answer: They got lost

When Rowley's parents came back, Greg was happy, assuming that they would ask the parents to give the dollar back. However, Mr. Jefferson was really angry, for Greg and Rowley got lost. Rowley's parents looked for them for an hour, and were therefore ready to call the police. After finding them, Mr. Jefferson sent them to their room early.
7. Greg Heffley took a free bike, but his father stated that it was a "girl bike," meaning get rid of it. Which of these was NOT a reason why Greg wanted to keep it?

Answer: It had gear switching

The basket on the handlebars meant that he could carry video games and suntan lotion. The big, cushiony seats were especially good because Greg was riding in his bathing suit. There was no mention that the bike came with gear switching (and the drawing doesn't illustrate it).
8. The Champions Swim Meet, a special swim meet, was which of the following?

Answer: A swim meet for swimmers who never won ribbons before

The Champions Swim Meet was only a scam that would make parents of poor swimmers feel like winners by giving first place ribbons to every swimmer, even if they did really poorly. Greg, for example, had to walk part of the 100m freestyle, due to getting exhausted. He didn't get disqualified; ironically, he won a first place ribbon.
9. If a student reads a "classic" during their free time at Greg's school, what does the teacher give him/her?

Answer: A sticker

This happens even though it is possible to buy a hundred of these stickers for 50 cents. Greg is not really sure what counts as a classic, but he assumes that it has to be at least fifty years old, and that some animal or person dies in the end.
10. Manny's parent would reward him a quarter every time he did which of the following?

Answer: Using the potty without being asked

Manny got so much money that he got a gallon jug to carry the money. Greg thought about getting a loan from Manny to pay for the smoothie bill, but he never got around to it. In addition, Greg was fairly sure Manny charged interest for the loans.
