Lemony Snicket is one of my favourite authors of all time, and there is no doubt in my mind that his series, "A Series of Unfortunate Events", will go on to be a classic.

Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. What is the name of the poisonous fungus that almost kills Sunny and almost causes a genocide within an entire island colony?

Answer: Medusoid Mycelium

This was the final appearance of the Medusoid Mycelium in the series. It first appeared in "The Grim Grotto". Oddly enough, its antidote was horseradish, which the Baudelaire parents were smart enough to incorporate into the growth of a tree on the island the Baudelaires washed up on.
2. In the first book, "The Bad Beginning", which of the following did Violet do?

Answer: Sign a piece of paper with her left hand

In the first book, "The Bad Beginning", Violet signs the wedding document, presented to her by Justice Strauss, with her left hand in order to make the marriage an invalid one. She doesn't take a baking soda bath until "The Wide Window", (actually she doesn't get to it because there is no baking soda in the house) and she didn't sign the paper with her right hand...so on we go!
3. How many people in the WHOLE series have the initials "JS" ?

Answer: Three

There are three people with the initials "JS": Jacques Snicket (who is killed in book seven, "The Vile Village"), Justice Strauss (who appears in "The Bad Beginning", and dies in "The Penultimate Peril"), and Jerome Squalor (who appears in "The Ersatz Elevator", and is presumed dead in "The Penultimate Peril").
4. In the whole series, how many total chapters are there?

Answer: 170

There were, in theory, 169 chapters, as this is the result of square rooting unlucky number 13 - the same number of books in the series. HOWEVER, you must realize that "The End" has an extra chapter, so the total chapters are 170.
5. The movie "A Series of Unfortunate Events" was based on the books "The Bad Beginning", "The Reptile Room" and "The Wide Window". Which of the following is actually something from book eight, "The Hostile Hospital"?

Answer: Last Chance General Store

The Littlest Elf is actually mentioned in book seven, "The Vile Village". The train scene never occurs in the books - it was an added scene to bridge events from "The Bad Beginning" to those of "The Reptile Room." Violet, Klaus and Sunny go to see Mr. Poe in book one ("The Bad Beginning") to complain about Count Olaf's behaviour.
6. In what book does Sunny's mobility develop?

Answer: The Vile Village

At the end of the book "The Vile Village", Sunny is able to walk without her sibling's support.
7. In "The Hostile Hospital", how many of members of the Baudelaire family are under assumed names which are anagrams of their real names?

Answer: Two

Believe it or not, one of the names is actually an anagram for "Beatrice Baudelaire" - Carrie E. Abelabudite. There is also one for Violet, as you might know - Laura V. Bleediotie.
8. What story is Snicket's PLOT mostly inspired by in "The End"?

Answer: Adam and Eve

Adam and Eve...the robes - reference to people covering up because of their shame. A BIG hint is the offering of the apple to the Baudelaires by the Incredibly Deadly Viper, who is a serpent. Some characters were actually taken from "Moby Dick" (Ishmael) and "Swiss Family Robinson" (Islander names); and "Lord of the Flies" was something I just decided to throw in there for your entertainment.
9. Who finds the Peppermints in "The Wide Window" and where?

Answer: Violet, in her pocket, at the Anxious Clown

Violet is the one who finds them in her pocket when she reaches in to look for something that might give them some time to think up a way to escape Olaf adopting them - as Captain Sham...*Shudders.* Klaus was at the Anxious Clown, but the Peppermints were given to Violet by Mr. Poe. Damocles Dock is the site where Violet is given the mints. Sunny couldn't have possibly seen the peppermints after the meal, because the children never finished their lunches.
10. Give the FULL NAME of Kit Snicket's baby:

Answer: Beatrice Snicket Denouement Baudelaire

Beatrice comes from the Orphans' mother, Snicket from her mother and Denouement from her biological father. Baudelaire is the last name of Violet, Klaus and Sunny, who promised Kit at her death that they would adopt the baby when Kit died. I wonder if this makes her Beatrice Baudelaire the second? Here's a fact for you: Violet was apparently named under the same tradition.
