The longer hand moves a lot faster than the hour hand. It goes all the way around the clock when the hour hand moves to a new number.

This hand is extremely slow. It only moves one number forward every hour.

Every minute, the minute hand moves from one of these dashes to the other. There are sixty of them if you include the number dashes themselves.
4. What time is it if the minute hand and the hour hand are on the twelve?

Answer: 12:00

The hour is whatever number the hour hand is pointing to, in this case twelve. Also, if the minute hand is pointing at the twelve, it is always zero.

10. Here comes a tricky one. What time is it if the minute hand is two dashes past the seven and the hour hand is almost to the four?

Answer: 3:37

Two dashes past the seven is the thirty-seventh dash. The hour hand hasn't made it to the four yet so it is still the three hour.
