Norman - Petalburg City Gym Leader is May's and Max's father. He is a major celebrity in the area around Petalburg, and his skill is reputed to approach the level of an Elite Four member. He uses a high-level Slaking to accompany his powerful Vigoroth. His undefeated streak ends when he battles Ash, who wins his fifth gym battle.

Richie's Pikachu, with mussed hair on its forehead, is nicknamed Sparky (Leon in the Japanese original). Sparky, unlike Ash's Pikachu, is indifferent to being inside its Poke ball, but it is almost always shown outside, similar to Ash's Pikachu. In fact, every captured Pikachu in the anime has been shown spending most or all of its time outside of a Poke ball, even though this is not noted by any characters to be typical of the species.

The guardian of the sea-Lugia is said to be the guardian of the legendary birds - 'Articuno, Moltres and Zapdos'. Its role is analogous to that of Ho-Oh and its guardianship of the three legendary beasts (Raikou, Entei and Suicune).

It is said by a legend that there is a balance between the forces of fire, ice, and lightning, represented by the three Titan Pokemon: Moltres, Zapdos, and Articuno.

In the movie it is the ambition of a collector of Pokémon items Lawrence III (although the name "Lawrence III" is given in pre-release sources and the junior novelisation, the movie's closed-captioning claims the name is "Gelardan" - the original Japanese had the name "Jirarudan"), to add Lugia to his collection. To do so, he uses his airship to fire huge ice-blasts and manages to successfully capture Moltres, and inadvertently causes the power struggle to begin.

Azurill was a newly hatched Pokemon, and a gift from Tracey. Tracey's Marill is the mother, though the identity of the father is unknown, rumours say it might be Misty's Politoed. Azurill acts as a replacement to Misty's Togepi and she holds it in her arms like she did with Togepi. Azurill is used in combat unlike Togepi, however.

Latias is not a legendary bird. Latias represents female and Latios male since 'o' in Latios' name could be a masculine point (but it's legendary).

There are a total of twenty-eight variations of these hieroglyphic Pokemon. Each variation somewhat resembles a letter of the alphabet, while the two exeptions resemble a question mark and an exclamation point.

Mewtwo was created from a fossil of the Legendary Pokémon, Mew, Giovanni used this Pokemon against numerous trainers, including Gary. After learning that Giovanni was using him, Mewtwo left him. After Giovanni tried and failed to recapture it, Mewtwo erased Giovanni's memory of him so he could live in peace.
