The Jewel Riders are chosen by a ceremony called the friendship ring ceremony. In this ceremony Jewel Riders are paired with an animal friend they've bonded with the most.

Princess Gwenevere, Falon and Tamara are the female version of the Jewel Riders, while Max, Josh and Drake are the male Jewel Riders or Knights of Avalon as they are referred to. Kale or Lady Kale, is the enemy of the Jewel Riders as well as Gwen's aunt.
