Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. For his two-week training tour, Matt is stationed to an old wreck of an airship, the Flotsam. Who is the captain?

Answer: Tritus

The Airship Academy had sent all their first-year students out on a training tour, to learn navigation. Matt was so unlucky as to be shipped out to the Flotsam under the command of Captain Tritus, who is a vile man and a reckless captain.
2. At what altitude is the Flotsam flying when the crew spots the Hyperion?

Answer: 9,000 ft

Such a height is dangerous, but at least it got them out of the Devil's Fist. The crew is just starting to relax when Mr. Sloan, up in the crow's nest, calls down that he sees a vessel to the south southeast.
3. While he's waiting for Kate at the Jewels Verne, Matt sees many rich and famous people (including the Lumière triplets and the Great Farini). One of them is a woman who wants to buy the Eiffel Tower. True or false?

Answer: True

Apparently the woman suddenly struck it rich with gold in the Yukon, and then wanted to buy the Eiffel Tower, take it apart, and ship back into Canada. She was not successful.
4. What old friend from the Aurora does Matt run into at the Jewels Verne?

Answer: Chef Vlad

Thinking that he's just a ragamuffin up to no good, the maitre d' is about to "escort" Matt out of the building when a waiter (thrown out by Vlad) comes crashing out of the kitchen along with a shout of "Imbecile!" Matt is delighted to see the temperamental old chef, who chastises the maitre d' for being so rude and then pays Matt's dinner bill.
5. How did Matt figure out that John Rath was not Matthias Grunel?

Answer: His sleeves were too short

Our very observant Matt Cruse noticed this because whenever Rath would take a drink or a puff on his cigar, his sleeves would ride up and reveal his hairy wrists. Matt knew that any rich person would have perfectly tailored clothes, and this set him on his guard.
6. Where is Nadira from?

Answer: England

Matt thinks that Nadira is from London by her accent, and he's correct.
7. During their first dinner aboard the Sagarmatha, Hal shares some wine he's been saving. What is it about the wine that pleases Matt?

Answer: It isn't very good

Matt had learned quite a bit about wines during his time on the Aurora, and he was happy to note that the stuff Hal served was not particularly good: "Not everything in Hal Slater's little airborne world was perfect."
8. Kate, wanting to test out her theory that there are lots of things living in the sky, rigs up a net outside her porthole. The little creatures she catches closely resemble which of the following?

Answer: Spiders

Some of them look like normal spiders, but some of them are very strange indeed. The creatures have wings, and since their little bodies should be frozen from being at such great heights, Kate believes that they have some sort of natural chemical (like ethylene glycol) inside them that lowers their freezing point.
9. Which one of the Saga's crew was electrocuted by the aerozoan and then fell overboard?

Answer: Dalkey

Matt, Kate, Miss Simpkins, Nadira, Hal, Kami Sherpa and Dalkey were all dancing in the ship's lounge when the aerozoan got tangled in the rudder. Matt and a few of the crew went out to see what was wrong, and unfortunately Dalkey was caught by two of the aerozoan's tentacles. He burst into flames and fell off of the Saga.
10. Where are Nadira and Matt when she kisses him?

Answer: Crow's nest

Nadira comes up to see the sunrise when Matt is on watch. It's supposed to be Nadira's wedding day and she says, "Care to kiss the bride?" Matt thinks she's just joking, but then she proves that she isn't. Kate, coming up to the crow's nest a few seconds later, is less than pleased, but pretends she didn't see a thing.
