1. What is the name of the small peg the golf ball is rested on at the beginning of a hole?

The golf tee is a small piece of wood or plastic with a broad top. The golfer rests the ball on top of the tee to play the first shot on every hole.
2. Which of these is the name of a player position in American football?

4. Which of these strange sounding names is a real position in a rugby union or rugby league team?

Answer: Hooker

The hooker is positioned in the middle of the front row of the scrum, in between the two props. One of his main jobs is to "hook" the ball back to his side in the scrum.
5. If you were at an ice hockey match, which of these objects would you be most likely to see?

Answer: A Puck

The puck is the hard rubber disc which the two teams try to get into each others' goal. Puck is also a character from a Shakespeare play - as are Ariel, Titania and Oberon. None of the other three are normally seen at an ice hockey game though!
6. If you were watching a tennis match, you might see different types of stroke being played. Which one of these is NOT a stroke you'd see being played at a tennis match?

Answer: Putt

A putt is a type of golf stroke. Lob (hitting the ball high into the air), smash (hitting the ball hard into the ground) and volley (a stroke usually played at the net) are all different types of strokes played at tennis.
7. Which one of these is NOT an item you'd see being thrown if you were attending a track and field athletics meeting?

Answer: A Welly

A discus is a disc, shaped like a plate, weighing two kilograms. A hammer is a heavy metal ball, with a wire attached to it, and a handle at the end of the wire. A javelin is like a pole, over 2 meters long, with a sharp point at the end.
8. What is the name given to the shirts worn by jockeys in a horse race in the UK?

Answer: Silks

It was given this name as the shirt was traditionally made from silk. The "silks" come in the distinctive colour patterns of the horse owner.
9. Which of these is a fielding positon in the game of cricket?

Answer: Silly Mid On

The cricket field is split into two "sides" - the "off" side and the "leg" or "on" side. Most of the fielding positions have the side of the field in their name - and silly mid off is a fielder who fields very close to the batter on the off side. Some would say that this is so close it's "silly" - and that's how the position got its name!
10. What is the name given to the player in a baseball game who throws the ball at the batter?

Answer: Pitcher

The pitcher "pitches" or throws the ball towards the batter - hence the term "pitcher"! Pitchers have lots of different ways of throwing the ball, including fast and curve balls.
