The game of cricket dates back to Tudor times, at least, in England and is played on a large grass pitch. The ball is very hard and some of the players wear helmets and protective pads to avoid being injured. The game is played in many countries around the world, including Australia and India, but is not well known in North America.

Golf is usually played over a long course of eighteen holes. The distance between the starting position and the hole is different for each of the holes. The player can be faced with other difficulties, such as deep holes filled with sand, which are called bunkers or sand traps. Playing a ball which has landed in one of these is difficult. Sometimes there are lakes or streams which have to be avoided as well.

Baseball is one of the main sports played in America, with two teams made up of nine players on each side. The batting team has to hit balls thrown by a player called a pitcher from the opposite side, and the winner is the team who scores more runs by running around bases set in a diamond shape.

In some countries, the game is known as field hockey, as the name hockey is used for the game played on ice. In England, we call that game ice hockey, so it can get very confusing to be sure which game we mean. Field hockey can be played by both men and women, although not normally in mixed teams, and it is the national sport of Pakistan.

Ten-pin bowling is played indoors with one of the balls shown being rolled along a lane to knock down as many of the pins at the other end as possible. The holes you can see are where the player puts his or her fingers and thumb to control the ball. Skittles is an older game, normally using only nine wooden pins and a wooden ball. Marbles uses small glass balls and crown-green bowling is played outdoors with the object being to get a large, heavy ball as close as possible to a target ball, called a jack.

Rugby union is the only sport listed which has fifteen people on each side. Rugby league has thirteen and Australian rules football has eighteen players per side. Soccer, or football as it is called in the United Kingdom, has eleven players and a round ball. Rugby union is played on a grass pitch outside, with scoring being either for a try, awarded for putting the ball on the ground behind the goal line, or for kicking the ball through a set of posts.

Tennis is played all over the world with four major tournaments each year, which are held in Australia, France, England and America. There are many other tournaments as well. In England, the outdoor game is often played on grass, while Europe has many courts made from clay.

Other courts can be made with concrete bases and are called hard courts. Badminton is played with a shuttlecock and ping pong (also called table tennis) with a small ball made from celluloid. Softball is a version of baseball.

Answer: Beach volleyball

The game was developed from the indoor game of volleyball, but that is played on a wooden court and has six players on each team. In beach volleyball, the players have to use their hands to get the ball over a high net in a way that means their opponents cannot hit it back to them. It has been included as an official sport in the Olympic Games since 1996.

In the game of snooker, the player has to pot a red ball, followed by a colour. When all fifteen reds have gone, the colours are taken in order, with black being the most valuable, scoring seven points. Billiards is played with only three balls. Bowlliards is a variation of pool.

Answer: Squash

Squash is an indoor game for either two or four players, who have to take turns at hitting the ball against any of the four walls of an enclosed court. Squash is also the name for a family of plants which grow on vines, and all the other names I gave you to choose from are fruits in the squash family.
