Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. In Feegle language, what is a 'scuggan'?

Answer: A really unpleasant person

The Nac Mac Feegles are a clan of six inch high, red haired, blue men with a special dialect all of their own.
2. Under whose tutelage was Tiffany learning to become a witch?

Answer: Miss Treason

Miss Treason is 111 years old,(although she put it about that she was 113 for 'professional reasons' as 111 sounded so...adolescent.') blind and deaf. She was skilled in the art of Borrowing, and used the eyes of animals around her, usually mice, reading what they saw out of their minds.
3. When Tiffany was taken to the dance, how many men did she see performing it?

Answer: Six

Miss Treason took Tiffany to see the Dark Morris, the dance that welcomes the winter. Similar to the Morris dance she had seen to welcome the summer, Tiffany, convinced it was all wrong and with the seventh member missing, leapt into the space and joined in. Ooops.
4. What was special about the snowflakes that the Wintersmith sent?

Answer: They were all miniature Tiffany Achings

After Tiffany had danced with the Wintersmith, he fell in love with her. To show his love, he sent her ice roses, icebergs and avalanches of snowflakes - each one a perfect image of her in miniature.
5. What was the name of the rogue cheese in the dairy?

Answer: Horace the Cheese

A cheese with a life of its own...
6. Who took over the cottage after the death of Miss Treason?

Answer: Annagramma Hawkins

As witches have a forewarning of when they are going to die, Miss Treason organised a wake before she went to avoid arguments over who inherited her few possessions. As is customary, the more senior witches decide among themselves who should inherit the cottage once the previous occupant has passed away, and chose Annagramma. Or so they think anyway.
7. When Tiffany's feet began to cause the floorboards to sprout shoots and leaves, what did Nanny Ogg tell her she had a bad case of?

Answer: Ped Fecundis

After taking the place of the Summer Lady when she danced with the Wintersmith, the Wintersmith believed Tiffany to indeed be the elemental goddess. As a result, goddess-like things were beginning to happen to Tiffany, which included new shoots and leaves sprouting when she walked barefoot on the ground, known as Ped Fecundis, or 'Fertile Feet.' To help combat the problem, Nanny Ogg gave her a pair of pink slippers with bunny rabbits on them to wear.
8. What was the first thing that the Horn of Plenty produced in Nanny Ogg's cottage?

Answer: Ham sandwiches

They were knee-deep in ham sandwiches until You the kitten caused them to become knee-deep in chickens. 'Werk.'
9. In the poem ' What do You Need to Make a Man,' complete the line that begins ' Silver enough to...'

Answer: Coat a pin

"Iron enough to make a nail,
Lime enough to paint a wall,
Water enough to drown a dog,
Sulphur enough to stop the fleas,
Poison enough to kill a cow,
Potash enough to wash a shirt,
Gold enough to buy a bean,
Silver enough to coat a pin,
Lead enough to ballast a bird,
Phosphor enough to light the town,
Strength enough to build a home,
Time enough to hold a child,
Love enough to break a heart." ( from 'Wintersmith')
10. In the Feegle mound, what book did Rob Anybody read first before the clan?

Answer: Where's My Cow?

Nac Mac Feegles are not renowned for their reading abilities so this is a major achievement.
