Abraham Lincoln was the 16th president of the United States. He was born in a log cabin in Kentucky in 1809 and became president in 1860. He was shot and killed by John Wilkes Booth in April of 1865.

The northern states felt that all people deserved to be free while the southern states, which relied on slave labor to run their large farms, disagreed.
