Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. If you want to ward off witches, you need to take a bull's heart, stick it full of thorns and put it in the fireplace.

Answer: True

I hope the warding lasts for a long time, because it seems a bit much to slaughter a bull every few days! Speaking now about the female of the species, if you see cows lifting their tails, then you know that it's going to rain.
2. If you see a swarm of bees settling on the roof of a house, it's an omen that the house will catch on fire.

Answer: True

However if one bee flies into your house it means you will be having a visitor. Don't kill the bee though, or the visitor will not be a very nice person. Bee stings have been believed to be a cure for rheumatism.
3. Stuffing a cat's tail up your nose is considered a cure for what?

Answer: a nosebleed

Of course you might end up bleeding from other places once the cat is finished scratching you! Among the numerous superstitions surrounding cats, there's also one that says it's unlucky for a miner to say the word 'cat' while underground.
4. Why must you not kill a bat?

Answer: You will shorten your life.

You could be in real trouble if a bat lands on your head, because superstition says that it won't get off until it hears thunder, and you obviously can't kill it without shortening your life!
5. Try not to let a ladybug land on you or you're sure to have bad luck.

Answer: False

It's actually considered good luck to have a ladybug land on you, but only if it flies away on its own, without any help from anyone else. The more spots it has, the luckier it is, unless you find a ladybug with more than 7 spots, that's a sure sign of approaching famine.
6. How would you get a sleeping woman to start talking and reveal her secrets?

Answer: Put a frog's tongue on her heart.

A frog hopping into your house is said to bring good luck, but I imagine that luck won't last very long if you repay it by ripping its tongue out!
7. If you make a wish on the first robin that you see in the spring, will you get your wish?

Answer: Yes

Yes you will, but only if you finish making your wish before the bird flies away, so be sure to speak quickly!
8. According to fisherman, is it better to get married when the fish are biting, or when they're not biting?

Answer: biting

And if you dream about a fish it means that someone you know is expecting a baby.
9. Is it considered lucky if you see a crow?

Answer: No

Seeing one crow is considered unlucky - you need to see 2 crows for it to be lucky. Seeing three crows is supposed to bring health, four wealth, five sickness and six death. Quite honestly, since they are now known carriers of West Nile Disease, I'd be happy not to see any more crows.
10. In most places, it's considered unlucky to see a white horse.

Answer: True

It's even worse luck if that white horse is being ridden by a red headed girl (Hmmm, but what kind of luck does the girl have when she's riding the white horse?) Whatever the case, when you see a white horse you need to spit and cross your fingers until you see a dog.
