1. What did Blinky Bill and Skippy have in common in the 1960s?

Answer: Both marsupial characters

Skippy the Bush Kangaroo was a TV character. Skip (supposedly a female) played Lassie to Garry Pankhurst's Sonny Hammond. Blinky Bill became a TV hero later, but at that time he was known as a book character. Both were marsupials although only Skippy had a pouch.

"Number 96" and "The Box" were both raunchy TV soaps of the 1970s, while "Bellbird" was a tamer and shorter soap that screened on the ABC during the late 1960s and 1970s. "Blue Hills" ran from 1949 to 1976, but it was a radio soap.

Answer: Ruby Ferguson's "Jill" books

The "Jill" books were popular with girls (and some boys) in the 1960s. There were nine titles, taking the eponymous heroine from eleven to seventeen. Paul Jennings' short stories were popular in the 1980s, while Harry Potter didn't hit the shelves until the 1990s. "Lord of the Rings" was around, but rarely read by this age group.
