1. Silicon

Answer: Valley

Silicon Valley was originally used to refer to the southern part of the San Francisco Bay Area in California, USA. Valley described the physical geography of the region while silicon was taken from the element used in the chips manufactured by the high-technology companies based there. Eventually the term began to be used for similar such locations in various other parts of the world which were home to large concentrations of technology companies.
2. Tin

Answer: Whistle

The tin whistle is a simple woodwind musical instrument that is closely associated with Celtic music. Other names for it include Irish whistle, feadog and Belfast hornpipe.

4. Neon

Answer: Sign

Sign boards that are lit through the use of gas tubes containing rarified neon are called neon signs. The method gained traction becoming especially popular in the United States in the mid-20th century.

Carbon dating is a scientific technique used to determine the age of an object that contains organic matter. First developed in the 1940s, it is used widely to date archaeological discoveries. The process entails delineating traces of the radioactive isotope of carbon found in the object and using it to pinpoint the approximate age.
9. Gold

Answer: Digger

Gold-digger is often used disparagingly to describe a woman who marries or associates with a wealthy man purely for the material gains. In recent times, the term has achieved some form of gender neutrality.

The term 'Iron Curtain' was used during the Cold War to describe the barrier between the western world, mainly the United States and countries in western Europe, and the Soviet Union and the eastern European countries that were under Soviet influence.
