Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. 'Air ball' is a term used in a game of basketball. What does it mean?

Answer: A shot that doesn't touch any part of the backboard, hoop, or rim.

As you may already know, the aim of basketball is to score as many points as possible by getting the ball through the hoop at either end of the court. Five players are on each team with substitutes waiting to come onto the court. It is a very popular game especially in the USA, Australia, Greece, Italy, Lithuania among other countries.
2. In which city and country would you find a track called 'Mount Panorama?'

Answer: Bathurst, Australia

Mt Panorama is a motor racing circuit home for Australia's big races. Mount Panorama is a public road so drivers need to obey the speed limit when taking a drive around the circuit when races are not being held. The circuit is 6.213 kms in length with the fastest lap officially recorded clocked at 2 minutes and 9 seconds.
3. On July 3, 1977 what event happened that would change the medical world?

Answer: The first MRI scan was performed on a human being.

4. What is a 'goatee?'

Answer: A small, pointed beard.

5. A 'full toss' is a term used in which sport?

Answer: Cricket

Cricket is a fun bat-and-ball game of great skill played outdoors although there is also a sport called 'indoor cricket.' It is a game mainly played during summer and it is mostly composed of Commonwealth countries playing at national level. The main countries who are involved in the sport include Australia, England, the West Indies, India, Pakistan, South Africa, and New Zealand.
Cricket is played by two teams, each consisting of 11 players on a field, round in shape and the person bowls the ball to a batsman on a hard pitch area with the aim being to score as many runs as possible without getting out.
A full toss is a delivery which gets to the batter without bouncing, making the batter hit the ball while in the air.
6. What is the animal that Indiana Jones is most scared of?

Answer: Snakes

Rather than being this outrageous character that is not real, the movie is made more believable because Indiana Jones is an original and human character playing part in an exciting storyline. He has courage, intelligence, strength. He is human because at the same time he also has weaknesses, like his dreadful fear of snakes.
7. You can score five points for a try in Rugby Union.

Answer: True

Rugby Union is a contact game which is probably the hardest game to play. It consists of backs and forwards in each team, the forwards normally run with the ball and get tackled or when defending trying to tackle and get the ball back to their team. Backs mostly kick the ball and are the most dangerous people on the field. Points are scored when kicking the ball in between the posts or touching the ball on the ground over the try line.

9. What happens when you score 'the special' in most games of pinball?

Answer: You get a free game.

I am always happy when I score this while playing pinball, it is money well spent. You get points when you rebound off something in the machine. An extra ball always helps, but when your game is over that isn't special.
10. When talking about recording, I mention 'DAT.' What does that stand for?

Answer: Digital Audio Tape

Obviously, as the name suggests this type of tape involves pictures and sounds so it is useful when recording something. Technology keeps improving and getting better all the time.

Answer: Sugar

Beer is the most popular drink in the world after tea, it is made from grain. As you already know beer differs in the amount of alcohol it contains. 12. Who invented the motorcycle by putting a small engine onto a bicycle?

Answer: Gottlieb Daimler

In 1884, an Englishman named Edward Butler simply attached a motor to a tricycle. A year later, Daimler made a more advanced version compared to Butler's and this is why he is recognised with having made the motorcycle first. Today the motorcycle is one of the most widely used vehicles for recreation, transportation, and racing.
13. The Vespa motor scooter was designed in which country?

Answer: Italy

The Vespa motor scooter was designed in 1945. Today, it isn't much different although technology has changed. Scooters are ideal for small cities with lots of people since there is a lot of traffic.
14. Aerofoils are found on aeroplanes, on which other invention are they also found?

Answer: Car

Aerofoils were an invention that made the Formula One racing cars easier and safer to drive. They acted like wings in reverse, keeping the car lower to the ground, making it stable at high speeds.
15. In 1924, who used a mechanical television to show his first transmissions of simple face shapes.

Answer: John Logie Baird

He lived from 1888 to 1946, and many believe that he invented the television but actually Philo Farnsworth has been recognised with having a patent on this major invention. John Logie Baird showed pictures of a person's face on a mechanical television and four years later this Scottish inventor added sound to these pictures.
