Question 1 of 15
1. Let's look around. I like this library. Wonder what great books they have today. Oh, yeah, I remember this one. "Animal Farm." It was about farm animals who kick out the owners and take over the farm. Yeah, and there was a pig in it who was like a dictator or something. The pigs weren't very nice, and he was the meanest. Hmmmm. Let's see now. What was his name? Hint

Question 2 of 15
2. Yeah, I read "Animal Farm" in high school. Let's see what's on this shelf. "Popular Tunes of the Fifties." Hmm. I remember some of those. There was a song by Lonnie Donegan called "The Rock Island Line." I think it was about a freight train engineer who tries to beat a toll by lying about what he has on board. Now what did he really have? Hmmm. Hint

Question 3 of 15
3. What is pig iron anyway? I've heard about for years but I still don't know exactly what it is. Hint

Question 4 of 15
4. Hmmm. I seem to have pigs on the brain today. I remember being in the midwest of the US and I was passing a farm and I saw something moving across the land pretty far away that I would have sworn was a truck, but the people I was with told me it was a pig! They also told me pigs grow mighty big in their state and that their state was the leader in US pig production. Which state was I in? Hint

Question 5 of 15
5. That also reminded me of a football team I saw on TV that was named after a type of pig, but I can't recall what state they were from. Do you know what university's sports mascot is a wild pig of the southeastern US? Hint

Question 6 of 15
6. Yeah, it's funny the kind of names people think up for things. Like there was this TV show once about this teacher and his class. They were like the worst kids in the school all stuck together in one room, and they made up some funny name for themselves. I think it . . . oh, yeah, the Sweathogs! But I can't remember what show it was. Can you help me? Hint

Question 7 of 15
7. It's funny how pigs can pop up in the strangest places. Maybe one will fly through the window of this library. Yeah, pigs are really popular. Like this song I remember hearing that goes like "Everywhere there's lots of piggies living piggy lives./You can see them out to dinner with their piggy wives/Clutching forks and knives to eat their bacon." I have no idea who wrote it though. Do you? Hint

Question 8 of 15
8. Pigs! Gosh, you don't realize until you think about it how often pigs show up in our lives! Like another book I read in high school. It was about these kids on an island and they were hunting pigs and there was even a guy named Piggy. As usual, I can't remember the title. Can you?

Answer: (Four Words)
Question 9 of 15
9. Yeah, I used to read a lot of books, even when I was a kid. But not that many pigs showed up. Wait! I remember one now. He lived in the woods I think, and he had friends like Owl, Rabbit and Edward Bear. Oh, what WAS his name? What WAS it? I hate it when I can't remember. Hint

Question 10 of 15
10. I used to go to the movies when I was a kid too. Sometimes they showed cartoons, like Bugs Bunny, Daffy Duck, and Porky Pig. Bugs and Daffy weren't like Mickey Mouse and Donald Duck. They didn't have girlfriends, but Porky did. Yeah, and here we go again. I can't remember her name for sure, but I think it was one of these: Hint

Question 11 of 15
11. Talking about cartoons made me think of Disney. Let's see if they have a book about him in the entertainment section here. Ah, here's a nice one about his early career. I see he did a lot of short films, like "The Three Little Pigs," and it was part of a series called: Hint

Question 12 of 15
12. There was this TV show a while back too that seemed like it was for kids because it had puppets but it was more for grown-ups, I think. It had Kermit, Gonzo, and Miss Piggy and a little show they did that was like part of their show. It was science fiction about pigs! And it was called "Pigs in _____".

Answer: (One word; 5 letters)
Question 13 of 15
13. Let's have a look in this section. Wow! Look at that. Another book I read in high school. "The Pigman." It was about these two teens and a man they met they called the Pigman, but that wasn't really his name. It was something like that though. Can you help me on this? Hint

Question 14 of 15
14. Now that I think of it, there was another pig man, on "Seinfeld." They go to visit somebody in the hospital. I can't remember who. And one of them sees what they think is a man who's being turned into a pig in some secret government experiment. But I can't remember which one it was. Hint

Question 15 of 15
15. When I was a kid my friends used to talk in this crazy language that used real words but they changed them in some way. They said it was like a code and they taught me how to do it too. They called it Pig Latin. I can't recall exactly how it went. Maybe you can help me. Like, for example, how would you say "Pig Latin" in Pig Latin?

Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts

Answer: Napoleon

Orwell apparently intended the pigs to be the Communist leaders who use a revolution for their own selfish ends. Napoleon was the leader of this crew. I didn't like him. I think Squealer was one of his henchmen, or henchpigs I guess you could say.
Hmmm.

Answer: pig iron

He said he had pigs, horses, cows and sheep because there was no toll on livestock, but when he got past the toll gate, he called back, "I got pig iron."
3. What is pig iron anyway? I've heard about for years but I still don't know exactly what it is.

Answer: iron that's just come out of the blast furnace

Pig iron is the crude form fresh from the blast furnace that's then turned into steel, wrought iron, or ingot iron. I looked it up right here in "Merriam-Webster's."

Answer: Iowa

The Hawkeye State produces over ten billion dollars per year in crops and livestock. The farmers there are number one in corn, soybeans, and hogs. I'll bet I can dig up a book on that in this library too. Maybe the "World Almanac."
5. That also reminded me of a football team I saw on TV that was named after a type of pig, but I can't recall what state they were from. Do you know what university's sports mascot is a wild pig of the southeastern US?

Answer: University of Arkansas

The Razorbacks are the beloved teams of Arkansas. The razorback hog is none too pretty but the Arkansas folks like it fine. Georgia teams are the Bulldogs, FSU's are the Seminoles, and Alabama's are the Crimson Tide.

Answer: Welcome Back, Kotter

I recall Gabe Kaplan playing Gabe Kotter in this sitcom that ran from 1975 to 79. Marcia Strassman played his wife Julie. I remember there was some kind of problem between Kaplan and the network people or whatever in the last season, and it got so bad that he wasn't even on the show any more.

His wife had to carry the show. Maybe "Go Away, Kotter," would have been a better title. John Travolta, who played Vinnie Barbarino was the only one most people remember from this show. Kaplan's career pretty much went into the tank once "Kotter" was cancelled.
Do you?

Answer: all of these

Yes, it was a Beatle song on the album "The Beatles," the one everybody calls "The White Album" because it indeed was. Louise Harrison was George's older sister.
8. Pigs! Gosh, you don't realize until you think about it how often pigs show up in our lives! Like another book I read in high school. It was about these kids on an island and they were hunting pigs and there was even a guy named Piggy. As usual, I can't remember the title. Can you?

Answer: Lord of the Flies

Yeah, I remember now. William Golding wrote it, and the boys were from England. What a great book! I think he also wrote some other book called "Pincher Martin."

Answer: Piglet

Right! "The House at Pooh Corner." And Edward Bear was Winnie the Pooh.
I can't remember her name for sure, but I think it was one of these:

Answer: Petunia

That's right. Petunia was like Minnie Mouse and Daisy Duck, only fat.
11. Talking about cartoons made me think of Disney. Let's see if they have a book about him in the entertainment section here. Ah, here's a nice one about his early career. I see he did a lot of short films, like "The Three Little Pigs," and it was part of a series called:

Answer: Silly Symphonies

Look, it says one of the "Silly Symphonies" won the first Oscar for an animated film. It was called "Flowers and Trees." Who knew?
12. There was this TV show a while back too that seemed like it was for kids because it had puppets but it was more for grown-ups, I think. It had Kermit, Gonzo, and Miss Piggy and a little show they did that was like part of their show. It was science fiction about pigs! And it was called "Pigs in _____".

Answer: Space

Sure, it was "The Muppet Show"! Dr. Strangepork was one of the characters. Those crazy muppets!
13. Let's have a look in this section. Wow! Look at that. Another book I read in high school. "The Pigman." It was about these two teens and a man they met they called the Pigman, but that wasn't really his name. It was something like that though. Can you help me on this?

Answer: Mr. Pignati

Right! I remember now. And the kids were Lorraine and John.
14. Now that I think of it, there was another pig man, on "Seinfeld." They go to visit somebody in the hospital. I can't remember who. And one of them sees what they think is a man who's being turned into a pig in some secret government experiment. But I can't remember which one it was.

Answer: Kramer

Sure, it figures Kramer would be the one. I heard he was based on a real guy named Kenny Kramer. Imagine somebody being like that in real life!
