Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Author Steve Hodel ("The Black Dahlia Avenger") claims to know the identity of the "Black Dahlia" killer. Who does he suspect?

Answer: His father

Hodel, a retired cop, makes a good case for his conclusion that his father was the killer in this famous unsolved crime from years ago. Interesting reading.
2. It has been suggested that the figure on the "Shroud of Turin" is actually a representation of Jacques de Molay. Who was he?

Answer: The last leader of the Knights Templar

The Knights Templar were an interesting bunch. They existed at the time of the Crusades and enjoyed a period of prominence - before being disbanded - and worse - involuntarily at the command of the Pope. There is speculation as to what secrets (and treasures) of theirs are yet to be disclosed.

There are also apparent links to the freemasons and rosicrucians. (Molay did not die a quiet death.)
3. In Arthur Miller's "Death of a Salesman", Willy Loman has a guilty secret that his son, Biff, learns about. What is it?

Answer: Willy's infidelity

Biff catches Willy with a woman other than Willy's wife (and Biff's mother). Things are never the same. The suicide of a son and the knowledge of defective manufacture are elements in Miller's "All My Sons" (which I personally enjoy more than "Salesman").
4. This actress apparently gave birth to the illegitimate daughter of Clark Gable.

Answer: Loretta Young

Gable worked with Young in "Call of the Wild". Young "adopted" a daughter - who has since come forth and stated that Young admitted Gable's parentage.
5. This writer was involved with an unknown "dark lady".

Answer: Shakespeare

Many Shakespearean scholars have tried to pin down the identity of the so-called "dark lady".
6. This person was involved with an unknown "immortal beloved".

Answer: Beethoven

The true identity of this woman in Beethoven's life has never been conclusively proven.
7. Musician Billy Tipton had one heck of a secret. What was it?

Answer: His sex

He was a she - who posed as a man - successfully - for a substantial period of time. Must have been interesting...
8. In the tv series M*A*S*H*, Colonel Potter confides to Hawkeye and B.J. that he had a secret "crush" on this celebrity.

Answer: Doris Day

Cute anecdote. "I go to all her movies - alone. Mildred doesn't know about this .... but neither does Doris."
9. In Agatha Christie's "Witness for the Prosecution", which secret device is not present?

Answer: The wife knows of the husband's affair with a younger woman

It's a play and a short story and a movie. In the movie, Marlene Dietrich tries to protect husband Tyrone Power by outfoxing barrister Charles Laughton. She doesn't know, however, about Power's pretty young playmate (Ruta Lee). Very entertaining.
10. For old-timers: which of the following was NOT a host of the tv show "I've Got A Secret"?

Answer: John Daly

Daly did "What's My Line?".
