Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. How about a movie question? Kevin Peter Hall worked in costume as two different movie "creatures". One was "Harry" from "Harry and the Hendersons". Which of these was his other famous role?

Answer: The Predator (From Predator)

Now I'm curious as to what the guy really looks like.
2. John Wayne was one of the toughest men to ever work in movies. But what was the "unmanly" first name that he grew up with?

Answer: Marion

Early in his career John Wayne refused cowboy roles because he didn't want to be typecast as a cowboy. Boy that worked out for him didn't it?
3. If I'm micturating, what room in my house should I be in?

Answer: The Bathroom

Micturate is a synonym for urinate. (Number 1 for those of you who are still confused).
4. Which of these baseball greats was NOT a charter member of the Baseball Hall of Fame?

Answer: Cy Young

Located in Cooperstown, NY, The Baseball Hall of Fame, was opened in 1936. With the election of Ozzie Smith in 2002, it boasted a membership of 254 baseball legends.
5. What popular singer's name, when translated, means "July Church"?

Answer: Julio Iglesias

I just know this, I don't actually listen to his songs.
6. General Santa Ana was famous for leading the Mexican attack on the Alamo in 1836. When he was later exiled to the United States, he introduced and helped develop what confection?

Answer: Chewing Gum

Santa Ana brought with him a block of what he called chicle. He gave some to inventor Thomas Adams. It was originally supposed to be a rubber substitute, but the General liked to chew it so much that Adams got the idea to put flavorings in it and sell it as a candy.
7. Here's a factoid that made my reputation: Which of these facts is correct about the Opossum?

Answer: It has a two-pronged penis

The two prongs are for the dual vagina's that the female Opossum possess. Interestingly this helped create the myth that Oppossum's mate through the nose and that the female sneezes her young into her pouch when they are old enough. (I didn't make this up.)
8. This prolific American poet only saw a dozen poems printed in her/his lifetime. The rest (over 1700) were printed posthumously.

Answer: Emily Dickinson

My favorite Dickinson:

"Wild Nights -- Wild Nights!
Were I with thee
Wild Nights should be
Our luxury!

Futile -- the Winds --
To a Heart in port --
Done with the Compass --
Done with the Chart!

Rowing in Eden --
Ah, the Sea!
Might I but moor -- Tonight --
In Thee!"
9. Which President was famous for his belief that the world was flat?

Answer: Andrew Jackson

"Old Hickory" undoubtedly was one of our most colorful and controversial presidents. Take a little time a research his life, you might never look at a $20 bill in the same way again.
10. Which fictional character was addicted to cocaine?

Answer: Sherlock Holmes

You can read about Sherlock's habit in either "The Sign of Four" or "A Scandal in Bohemia". I was surprised, but not shocked to read that literature's most famous detective liked to ride the white lightning. Oh, he also abused morphine too.
