Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Nostradamus predicted that the "blood of the just will be demanded of London...the ancient lady will fall from her high place and many of the same sect will be killed". This quote could refer to what 17th century disaster in England?

Answer: The Great Fire of London

The Great Fire of London occurred in 1666. It lasted for three days, destroying much of central London. "The blood of the just" could refer to the millions of flea-infested rats that perished. Civilian death tolls could not be verified but it is acknowledged that only six people died.
2. "From the depths of the West of Europe, a young child will be born of poor people, he who by his tongue will seduce a great troop and his fame will increase towards the realm of the East". This is a Nostradamus quote that predicted what twentieth century event?

Answer: Hitler's legacy

Hitler was born in Austria in 1889 to parents who were of poor people. Following World War I, through superior verbal skills, Hitler convinced Germany to continue actions resulting in the second World War. The realm of the East could refer to the Axis alliance with Japan.
3. A world-changing event was described in the following quote by Nostradamus: "Near the gates and within two cities there will be scourges the like of which was never seen, famine within plague, people put out by steel, crying to the great immortal god for relief". What earth-shattering occurrence could this be?

Answer: The dropping of the Atomic Bomb

Following the attack on Pearl Harbor, the United States in 1945 dropped the first two atomic bombs in history on Hiroshima and Nagasaki. These have been used in reference to the two cities in Nostradamus' quote. Those who suffered from the blast and subsequent radiation related to the crying out for relief.
4. During the 1960s in America, the death of these political brothers was reputedly foretold by Nostradamus with this prediction that "the great man will be struck down by a thunderbolt, an evil deed foretold by a bearer of a petition. According to the prediction another falls at night time. Conflict at Reims, London and a pestilence in Tuscany". Who were these iconic American politicians?

Answer: John and Robert Kennedy

The petition was the litany of death threats JFK received prior to his assassination, and the thunderbolt could be the gun. Robert's death, having occurred after midnight, is explained by the other falling at night time. The conflicts listed refer to the mourning thereafter.
5. Another of Nostradamus' predictions was stated as follows: "From the human flock nine will be sent away, separated from judgment and counsel. Their fate will be sealed upon departure Kappa, Thita, Lambda the banished dead err". This prophecy was associated with which disaster of the 1980s?

Answer: Challenger explosion

In January of 1986, the Space Shuttle Challenger exploded shortly after takeoff resulting in the deaths of all the astronauts. A defective O-ring manufactured by Thiokol was the cause of the crash. It is believed that when the letters of Kappa, Thita and Lambda are rearranged they spell out the name of the manufacturer.

The prediction that nine will perish is erroneous, as only seven died.
6. Nostradamus prophesied that, "God the Last but First the nickname of Nostradamus of the 90s takes the goddess of the moon for his day and movement. A frantic wanderer and witness of Gods law in awakening the world's great regions to Gods will". This prediction is supposedly connected to which event of the 1990s?

Answer: Death of Princess Diana

On August 31, 1997, the world witnessed the death of Princess Diana in Paris, France. Analysts believed that the Roman goddess of the moon is related to Diana. More broadly, Nostradamus' nickname was seer which when spelled backwards is rees; Trevor Rees was the sole survivor of the crash.
7. This earth-shattering event in 2001 was foretold by Nostradamus using the following quote, "Earthshaking fire from the center of the earth will cause tremors around the New City. Two great rocks will war for a long time, then Arethusa will redden a new river". This prognostication could be in reference to which, arguably the worst, disaster on American soil?

Answer: 9/11 attacks in New York

On September 11, 2001, terrorists struck the USA in New York City, Washington D.C. and over Pennsylvania. The quote could refer to the attack on New York as alluded to by the "New City". Two great rocks could be the Twin Towers of the World Trade Center, and "redden a new river" is the bloodshed as a result of the event.
8. Nostradamus once said, "The year 1999 seven months, from the sky will come the great King to Terror to resuscitate the great king of the Mongols. Before and after Mars reigns by good luck". This quote reputedly foretold the death of which prominent American as a result of an airplane crash in the United States?

Answer: John F. Kennedy Jr.

On July 16, 1999, John F. Kennedy, Jr. was killed when the plane that he was piloting crashed into the Atlantic Ocean near Massachusetts. The year and the month of the mishap coincide with the prediction. The suggestion that something will happen in the sky can be linked to a plane crash.
9. Yet another of Nostradamus' forebodings was put forth, "The cities of Tours, Orleans, Blois, Angers, Reims and Nantes are troubled by sudden change. Tents will be pitched by people of foreign tongues. Rivers, darts at Rennes, shaking of land and sea". This prediction has been linked to which hurricane on mainland America?

Answer: Katrina

Supposedly, Orleans refers to New Orleans and the shaking of the land and sea are characteristics of a hurricane. Pitching of tents could be the displaced people, both local and foreign. Prior to Katrina, this prophecy was believed to be about France as the place names referenced are all locations there as well.
10. Lastly, this quote alludes to an event that did not happen in the 20th century. "Pestilences extinguished, the world becomes smaller, for a long time the lands will be inhabited in peace. People will travel safely through the sky over land and wave, then wars will start anew". What event is he supposedly referring to?

Answer: WWlll

This prophecy points to the start of a third world war. It has been a long time since WWII, and since then many pestilences became extinguished through advances in medicine, the world became smaller as a result of air travel and the Internet. The relative safety of travel will supposedly come to an end with the onset of a third world war.
