Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. What is the formula for determining Easter?

Answer: The first Sunday after the first full moon after March 21

All right, so that wasn't too difficult to guess, but it's interesting to know, isn't it?
2. In what state of the lower 48 can you see the sun first every day in the USA?

Answer: Maine

That place is the top of Mt. Katadhin.
3. Sir Francis Galton tested 9,337 people over the course of six years in an attempt to measure human intelligence. When did this research take place?

Answer: 1884 to 1890

How he measured 'intelligence' was by measuring people's senses. His (generally accepted) logic was that, since most knowledge is transmitted to the brain through sight, sound, etc., then the people with the most acute senses would be the smartest. He devised tests that would measure things like the subject's ability to hear high-pitched sounds, sense subtle differences in color, and approximate weights.
4. Which side of a Rubik's Cube, when solved correctly, shows the words 'Rubik's Cube' in the centre square?

Answer: White

'Solved correctly' means making each face of the cube a solid colour, without taking off the stickers and putting them on different sides.
5. What is the proper name for what is usually known as 'the big toe'?

Answer: Hallux

The word comes from the Latin 'allex', which means, presumably, 'hallux' or 'big toe'. The plural of 'hallux' is 'halluces'.
6. The children's author Roald Dahl was born where?

Answer: Wales

He wrote children's classics such as 'Charlie and the Chocolate Factory', 'James and the Giant Peach', 'The BFG', and 'The Witches'. By the way, the grandmother in 'The Witches' was based on his mother, Sophie, and he took advice from Ernest Hemingway.
7. In the popular trading card game Magic: The Gathering, what card (first printed in Alpha) has the informal nickname 'Tim'?

Answer: Prodigal Sorcerer

These are all Magic cards printed in Alpha. 'Tim' is apparently a reference to a certain 'Monty Python' movie.
8. In what year was the last TV cigarette advertisement in North America aired?

Answer: 1970

It was aired during the Tonight Show on December 31st, 1970.
9. What was the first North American airline to ban smoking on flights?

Answer: Air Canada

10. As of September, 2002, what is the most common first name among Canadian Prime Ministers?

Answer: John

John Alexander MacDonald, John Joseph Caldwell Abbott, John Sparrow David Thompson, John George Diefenbaker, and John Napier Turner all count towards the total (Jean Chretien doesn't count - his full name is Joseph Jacques Jean Chretien)
11. A keraunothnetophobic is afraid of lightning. True or False?

Answer: False

Keraunothnetophobia is fear of falling satellites. Astraphobia is fear of lightning.
12. What is the capital of Mongolia?

Answer: Ulaanbaator

These are all Mongolian towns (and I'm sorry if I spelled them differently than you would, these names all came from an atlas, so don't blame me). Interestingly, all 1,565,000 square kilometers of Mongolia is land - the country has no lakes.
13. In the video game 'Super Mario Sunshine' for the Nintendo Gamecube, on what tropical island does the game start?

Answer: Isle Delfino

In the game, Mario uses a device resembling Luigi's Poltergust 3000 (from 'Luigi's Mansion') called the FLUDD which shoots water in several different ways, used for different purposes.
14. What does 'dorsal' mean?

Answer: On or of the back

The dorsal fin, on a fish or whale etc., is a fin that is on the back of the creature. 'Ventral' is the opposite of dorsal ('Of or on the abdomen), but just because something isn't black doesn't mean it's white (i.e. 'not of the abdomen' doesn't mean 'of the back').
15. How much Monopoly money comes with a normal American Monopoly set?

Answer: 15,140

This includes $40 Monopoly money in $1 (white) bills. In one game, I had 36 of the 40 one-dollar bills, but my friend wouldn't sell his four (I would have paid him two twenties for four ones, but he wouldn't sell them).
