1. Which of the following countries has coastlines on both the Adriatic and Ionian seas?

Answer: Albania

Albania lies in South Eastern Europe on the Balkan Peninsula. Its coastal location, including several beach resorts, makes it a popular tourist destination. It is also well known for its many historical buildings, in particular, castles.
2. There are several 'B' countries, but which is the only one below in which you are likely to encounter wild elephants?

Answer: Botswana

Botswana is a landlocked country in Southern Africa. It incorporates both the Kalahari Desert and the Okavango Delta, meaning that it is ideal habitat for a wide range of wild animals, including lions, leopards, rhinos, hippos and crocodiles.

Answer: Canada

At just under ten million square km, Canada is smaller than only Russia. Canada is well known for its many lakes, which make up almost 9% of its total area. In fact it has so many lakes that if these were removed, the country would actually be smaller than the USA.

Guyana was originally a Dutch colony, and was later colonised by Britain. It was then known as British Guiana. French Guiana is a separate overseas department of France on the North Atlantic coast of South America.

Ghana sits between Togo and the Ivory Coast in Africa's west. It also borders the Gulf of Guinea, which sits on its south. It has a diverse geographical landscape consisting of forests, caves, mountains and savannahs.

Answer: True

Haiti was in fact the first country within the Caribbean region to gain independence, when it won the right from France in 1804. It had previously been under Spanish rule (1492-1625), and was also overtaken by the US following World War I. The Republic of Haiti shares the island of Hispaniola with the Dominican Republic.

Answer: Iceland

Iceland lies between the North Atlantic and Arctic Oceans. At just over 100,000 square km, it is the world's 18th largest island. Because it is geographically closer to mainland Europe than North America, Iceland is generally considered to be part of Europe.

Answer: Japan
