Mount Everest is the highest mountain in the world with an elevation of 29,029 feet in the Himalayan mountain range. The mountain is named after Colonel Sir George Everest, Surveyor General of India (1830-1843).
The first ascent was in May 1953 by Sir Edmund Hillary and Sherpa Tenzing Norgay.
