Queensland has an area of 1,727,000 km2, which is slightly smaller than Mexico. New Zealand, of course, is not a state of Australia (but Queensland is bigger anyway).

Answer: Lake Torrens

Lake Torrens, like Lake Eyre, is in South Australia. It fills with water only during periods of very heavy rain. In the 20th century this only happened once - in 1974.
