Answer: E.T. Barnette

E.T. Barnette never actually wanted to come to Fairbanks. His goal was to take steam ship, by the Tanana River, to the town of Tannacross. Barnette there on the banks of what is now Fairbanks.

No, Alaskans don't, nor did they ever, live in igloos or other ice structures. When Alaskans first settled in Alaska no property was actually purchased, they chose a place to settle and built cabins. They were what we call squatters today. Some land was sold by the government and promised homestead rights, but for the majority they were all squatters.

Some of the original cabins and homes are still standing today at a place in Fairbanks called Alaska Land were tourists are able to go inside and see how early settlers lived.
