Home of the Grand Ole Opry. Player sophia_jr also informs me that several distinguished authors come from Tennessee. These include James Agee ("A Death in the Family"), Alex Haley ("Roots"), Frances Hodgson Burnett ("The Secret Garden" and "A Little Princess"), and poet Nikki Giovonni. Movie director Quentin Tarantino also hails from TN. And of course, who could forget Elvis Presley? The state gave us the blues and the most-visited national park (Great Smoky Mountains). Did you know that TN is less than half a day's drive to one-half of the U.S. population? That's because Tennessee boasts a unique geographical trait: it borders eight other states.

Near Murfreesboro lies Crater of Diamonds State Park. You can rent tools and dig for your own diamonds there! Hot Springs National Park is in Arkansas, too. Answer: Virginia

Next to Washington, D.C. A player and a Virginian contributes the following: "We are the site of the first English settlement, Jamestown (don't let anyone tell you it was the Pilgrims, they came years later), and the first capital, Williamsburg. We have the Chesapeake Bay, one of only a couple very deep water ports (and therefore a heavy military presence, as we are one of few places that can berth aircraft carrier and other military ships), the beautiful Blue Ridge mountains in the western part of the state, and more history than you can shake a textbook at. Richmond was capital of the confederacy, Cornwallis surrendered at Yorktown, George Washington lived here, so did Thomas Jefferson (who founded the University of Virginia). The College of William and Mary predates the United States.

Jamestown is holding its 400th anniversary in 2007 - come visit!"
25. Mitch again

Answer: Michigan
