Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Just on the shore you can see this sculpture, the Sun Voyager. What is the name of this city?

Answer: Reykjavík

The Sun Voyager was created by Jon Arnason in 1990. The sculpture looks like a gutted out Viking ship. Another name for the Voyager would be Solfar.

We actually went to Iceland in February of 2020 and this was our first stop on that very cold and windy day. We took a picture and got away from the sea as fast as we could. February days are only about eight hours of sunlight, but perfect for seeing the northern lights on a clear night.
2. I backpacked the Wonderland Trail in Washington state for nine days. Do you know the mountain that I circled around on this trail?

Answer: Mount Rainier

All of these mountains are peaks in the state of Washington, but this trail goes 93 miles around Mount Rainier. While we were hiking the trail in our nine days, we saw three bears, numerous mushrooms and a lot of waterfalls along the way. We not only had a beautiful time but made friends along the way and got a couple of blisters too. The hard part of the trail is the constant gain and loss daily. Sometimes over 5,000 feet in one day. We hiked the trail in September of 2019.

You have to camp at certain areas and need a permit to camp overnight. You can read more about the trail on their website.
3. The beautiful Niagara Falls is on the border of two countries. Between which two countries can you find these falls?

Answer: United States and Canada

If you head northwest in New York to the town of Buffalo, you will be just minutes away from the breathtaking Niagara Falls. You can take tours like the Maid of the Mist, which goes to the bottom of the falls on a boat. On the Canadian side you can go from venue to venue while the American side is more relaxed and less of a party town. You can enjoy the beautiful light show at night on either side, but it is truly inspiring to see.
4. If you fly to Sydney, Australia, you'll want to head south to a beautiful National Park to see the Figure 8 pools. What is the name of this park that also has "Wedding Cake Rock"?

Answer: Royal National Park

The figure 8 pools are about an hour hike down to the water. Now, you just can't go anytime. You must carefully figure out the timing to see the figures. If the timing is right, you hike down, along the wall and across the rocks to the figures. One thing you never do is to turn your back to the ocean. Those waves will and can knock you out. Seriously, before hiking this trail, make sure you check with the visitor center.

Another short hike is to the beautiful Wedding Cake Rock. This is another dangerous hike, since you can not stand on the rock. It's brittle and breaking apart, so it's fenced off from tourists. Please do not attempt to cross the barriers.
5. This gorgeous lady is on an island in New York. What is the name of this island?

Answer: Liberty Island

Ellis Island is the place where millions of people came from other countries back in the late 1800s and early 1900s, while Lady Liberty is actually on a separate island, Liberty Island.

You can visit both of these islands on a boat ride from either New Jersey or Manhattan. Somehow watching Lady Liberty just made me feel so good, knowing that my great grandfather also came in this same route from Europe. Oh, how he must have felt knowing he was starting a new life in America.
6. I'm standing on Fortaleza Street and looking up at the beautiful colorful umbrellas. Where am I standing?

Answer: San Juan, Puerto Rico

Hidden on one of the back streets in San Juan you can find this display of art called Umbrella Sky Project. We took a cruise out of Puerto Rico and made sure to visit this famous street. Yes, it is possible to get a picture without anyone in it. Many places have their own display, Barcelona, Portugal, even Turkey.
7. If you want a complete work out, head to this state and hike up over 1000 railroad tie steps to Koko Head. What state is this that overlooks the Pacific Ocean?

Answer: Hawaii

There are exactly 1,048 stairs to the top of Koko Head. Many of the railroad ties are broken, missing and just gutted out. When I hiked to the top I saw people running up and down those ties. There was no way and usually I was sitting down as I descended.

At the top of the peak you were blessed with a beautiful scene of the amazing Oahu island.
8. You are standing at the home of the 2008 Olympic stadium. What city am I in?

Answer: Beijing

The Bird's Nest was home to the Summer Olympics in China. At night time the display of lights come on and you are standing in awe of this beauty. The darker it got the more the lights stood out. You can walk up and down the Olympic street and see all the buildings. Another amazing one was the National Aquatics Center as it glowed with a deep blue color.
9. David Cerny is known for his unique sculptures. Some of the "Babies" can be found in this city in Czech Republic. What city am I standing in?

Answer: Prague

The "Babies" were originally suspended on a tower, but the public views were a little outraged, they were moved outside of a museum in Prague. If you look closely you will notice that their faces are just a 'chip'. The way that my tour guide told me, the rumor was that one day we will be just like the "babies" with a chip for our brain.
10. If you ever get to this country you will be amazed at the gorgeous blue waters. The Soca waters can be found in what country?

Answer: Slovenia

I have left my favorite trip for my last question. Slovenia was so much more than what I expected. You can take a beautiful hike by Lake Bled to Gorg Blejski Vintgar. You can also take a ride all throughout Triglav National Park. I was amazed! I saw blue waters, waterfalls and so many gorges.
